Hi ladies,
Here's the scoop. My fiancé and I are paying for our own wedding, but we're having a little bit of trouble agreeing on what a "reasonable" budget is. Close family, alone, puts our guest list at around 100 (that's with no kids under 12...we have big families), and while I DO NOT want an opulent wedding, feeding our guests well and making sure they have a good time IS important to me. He, on the other hand, thinks that throwing a good party makes it more about our guests than it is about us. I see his point, but I do not agree. The ceremony is most definitely about us, but the reception is a thank you to those who came to support us, right?
How can I demonstrate to him the importance of a wedding as a whole event. Because it's NOT just about us, these people made us who we are and I would like to thank them for that - with an awesome night of delicious food and amazing music - but I don't want to contstantly fight over WHY we need a photographer (this is a real argument we have had...seriously), or HOW are we going to fit 100 people in your parent's back yard, and WHERE are they all going to park?! HELP!!

I agree with you. Tell him that it is important that the people who have supported you through your relationship deserve to see you make that commitment.

The only thing I can say is talking to him about how you feel. Give him reasons why you feel it is important but the reception is also about you guys. The cake cutting, the first dance, and overall it is a celebration of your love and also a thank you to all your friends and family that have supported you both.
