We are planning our wedding for June in Phoenix.  One of our options is an outdoor venue.  It is a large pavilion so it has a roof and the sides that close up in that heavy tarp material.&nb

We are planning our wedding for June in Phoenix.  One of our options is an outdoor venue.  It is a large pavilion so it has a roof and the sides that close up in that heavy tarp material.  It will obviously be pretty hot then and using AC to cool it is way too expensive.  The cooling company offered the use of evaporative coolers for the room.  Has anyone used these and do they work to cool a very large area?  Also, are they loud or would they be an annoyance at the reception?  We like the room, but I really don't want to be sweating or have my guests not enjoy it because it is hot or they can't hear anything over the noise.

I've never seen that kind of set up, but my grandma's house still had evaporative cooling until about 10 years ago and it was always miserable.  I mean, it's definitely cooler than it is outside, but it's a very muggy type of cooling and not ideal.  If you are getting married in June, I would HIGHLY suggest an indoor/air conditioned venue.  Your guests might be able to survive through a 20-30 minute ceremony, but I would not recommend having your reception outdoors with only a swamp cooler.
