Hi Ladies-

Following up on my previous post about photo sharing cards- I was thinking of using facebook as a way for everyone to share photos- perhaps making a page for our wedding, and having people uplaod their pictures on to there? I'm not sure if that's weird though...just trying to be creative! I really want a shared area where everyone cdan share photos and see photos- but I don't want to have people think I'm weird for making a facebook page...I feel like asking people to "like" a wedding page is weird, but once they do they can see/share photos...

Thoughts?? Please tell me if this is completley outrageous!!!

i feel people upload their pictures to facebook first these days. they might upload then to your profile and just tag you in them, but having a page for them might be a good idea if you dont want your profile flooded with tagged pictures from your wedding.I did receive your previous post about ultilizing a photo webiste to do this, but i dont know how many people would actual go back and actually do this. I like your fb idea!

Can you set the privacy settings on a page so that only certain people can "like" it so that all of your pictures aren't public? I believe that you can set privacy on a group so that it's invite only or you have to request an invite. I think pages are a different thing than groups...at least they used to be!

FB is definitely the first place where pics start popping up from your wedding.  I agree that a group might be good.  It shows up on the left side of your home page and you can invite people to it as a prompt to share pictures (and even add that as the group description).  People can turn off the settings on the top so that they don't get notifications every.single.time. someone posts something.

I'm sorry, and I say this politely, but I think it's unnecessary.  Your guests will post up wedding photos and they'll see your photographers' blog a few months down the road.  Making a fb page devoted entirely to your wedding pics is going to seem extremely AW-ish.

A girlfriend of mine handed out cards at the wedding and asked ppl to upload their photos on Flickr. I'm fairly certain in was unsuccessful. I set up a shtterfly share page, and a couple people uploaded photos.

I considered doing cards but like pp said it was not that successful for other people so I am scrapping the idea. I don't think a facebook page is necessary but I am also debating how to kindly communicate to our guests that they are guests and not photographers so my perspective is different. I dislike when guests are too busy snapping to enjoy the event, plus they sometimes get in the way of the pro. I say just let it play out and you can always ask for the files if you see photos you must have.

I really don't like the idea of having FB be the main place for ppl to upload their pics. Even if you can get privacy settings set up...ehh I'm not a fan.

I would, however, suggest using Picasa (it's free), and it's removed from FB so univited ppl (FB friends) won't have an onslaught of Swan wedding pics being uploaded.

A friend who recently got married used 'The Wedding Lens', it's an online photo sharing site (costs $).

I don't mean to be snobby, I just really think it's tacky when ppl use FB in conjuction w/ their wedding, and I'd be like hrmm if a friend made a page for ppl to upload pics.

Edited for clarification

Facebook has limits on the size of the photos that can be uploaded. If you use any photos from facebook, they will be difficult to print and maintain good quality. If you just want to keep a collection of photos from different perspectives, the facebook page will work. If you are looking for photos to add to an album, you may want to use a different site.

Do you have a wedding website where you could provide a little note mentioning how much it would mean to you if they were to upload their pictures to picasso, shutterfly or one of those.  You could also have the vistaprint cards at the wedding.  Just know that you can't force them to do this but by putting it on your website and having the cards it would be really encouraging.  GL!
