Hello!  I'm woefully behind on my planning and need some help from you DC knotties!  Can you guys recommend caterers?  I'm getting married in Reston.  I would preferably want a caterer who is willing to allow me to bring in my own alcohol.  I don't want a sit down dinner.  Either buffet or stations.  Thanks you guys!  I know this seems impossible but we're looking for great food (not necessarily fancy food, but good) at a fantastic price.  Impossible?

I'm using R&R catering....They are allowing me to bring my own alcohol, and have a lot of options to fit your needs.  They also have a monthly tasting.  FI and I went to one recently for the fist time, and their food was delicious.  The person that we are using is Laura Ritchie (laurar@rrcatering.com).  Hope this helps!

They might be a bit pricey but I can say the food is fantastic. I went to a work event at the Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum last week catered by Occasions and I don't even know where to start. The food was DELISH and the way they had the food displayed was awesome. They even had a sushi-belt type thing for the desserts.

The only thing that's annoyed me about them is that I emailed the contact that my company worked with directly and still have not heard back from him almost a week later. Not really a big huge deal because I think I've found our venue anyway (it's a hotel so we wouldn't need an outside caterer) but I still would have liked to get some pricing.

We're going with Basiknead Catering in VA for our 9/11/2010 wedding.  We're providing our own alcohol and we're doing buffet for 170 people.  They are excellent and the first tasting was wonderful.  Threy're really working with us to get menu we want not cookie cutter.  They price was beautiful for the caliber of service they're providing.  they really worked with my budget and I didn't feel nickeled and dimed.  Can't say enough about them.  I would love to know how they work out for you if you decide to contact them.  doe49@msn.com.  Good luck and happy planning.

I also recommend checking out Basikneads...we have had a great experience so far.  We went to an R&R tasting and weren't thrilled so decided to try Basikneads and it was delicious and a more personal experience.  Their coordinator Lena is also great to work with...very on top of things.

Check out Stone Soup.  They are really wonderful.  They are incredibly priced and have lots of tasty options.  I would highly recommend them.

I would recommend Matters of Taste in Alexandria. I have used them for several events for my job and they were by far the best. Ask for Christina she will work with you on your budget and the food is delicious. http://www.motcatering.com/

I used Catering by Uptown.  They are located in Beltsville, but our venue was in Alexandria.

They offered SO much food.  We had something like 6 passed hor doerves, 3 stationary stations, and a dual entree (crabcake/filet mignon), plus, they offered chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert.   It was all inclusive, so they provided the linens, china, chivari chairs, even the centerpieces (simple taper candles in hurricanes).  It was $90pp.  (We got married in '08)

I was also able to provide my own alcohol. (I think the venue has to agree to that as well.)  The only thing was I needed to get an alcohol license ($50) from Virigina.

Highly recommended Catering by Uptown.  I also got my cake through them (they use Sugar Bakers) and it was cheap and delicious.  Just had another slice for our 1 yr anniversary, and the cake was actually still really good.  Uptown was great because they took care of so much that I didn't have to worry about much at all.

Oops, I missed the part where you said you wanted a buffet, not a sit-down dinner.  I'm pretty sure Uptown can do a buffet as well, but I'm not sure about the price.  I would think it'd be cheaper than the sit-down option.  Good luck!
