State College, PA 4. What city do you live in?
New York City
5. Where did you go to college?
I went to the University of Pittsburgh for undergrad and Rutgers University for my masters.
6. What was your major? Finance/Management
7. What is your current job?
I work on strategy and research projects at Prudential Financial.
8. What is your dream job?
Something in the field of sports/nutrition/fitness. I have always loved sports ever since I was young and wish I could do something sports-related as a grown-up. :) 9. How did you and your fiance' meet?
We met through a mutual friend a little over 5 years ago. My friends and I were heading to a party at Canal Room in NYC. I had just recently gotten out of a relationship so I was pumped for a girls night out. While we were getting ready at my apartment, my fiance called my girlfriend (who he was also friends with through college) to see what she was up to. She mentioned that all of us girls were heading to Canal Room, and that him and his friends should come meet us. She also slyly mentioned that she had a newly single girlfriend in the group (me), to which he responded by saying that she should put in a good word for him. My fiance and his friends met us at the party and as soon as we met, we hit it off. We spent the rest of the night talking, laughing, and hanging out together. I immediately felt so comfortable around him, as if I had known him for years. I remember that night like it was just yesterday - we've been together ever since. :)
10. When did you get engaged, and how did he do it??
We got engaged on November 20, 2010, a week before our 4 year anniversary. That Saturday morning, we had brunch plans with another couple. While we were heading out to meet them, my fiance mentioned that he received a text from them saying that they were running late. Since we had some extra time, he suggested that we go up to the rooftop of our building and hang out a bit, since it was surprisingly warm out that November day. So we headed up to the roof, and when I opened the door to the roof, I saw a table set up with two plates, two champagne glasses, and champagne. I wasn't sure why there was a table set up like that, but as soon as I turned around to ask, I saw him kneeling down on one knee with a small box in his hand. He opened up the box and asked me to marry him right then and there. I don't remember exactly what he said when he proposed because I was so shocked and happy that it was happening! After he proposed, we celebrated, drank champagne, and then he set up brunch from from my favorite brunch place (he ordered takeout before we headed up to the roof since our other brunch plans that morning were obviously fake haha). Then for the rest of the day, he had planned other surprises and activites for us to do, like a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to the Brooklyn Promenade, a couples massage at a spa, a nail appointment (since he knows I don't wear nail polish all the time), a wine and cheese tasting (because I LOVE cheese), dinner and drinks at my favorite restaurant, and even a surprise party with all of friends there to celebrate with that night. It was seriously the best day of my life and I was so touched to see how much thought he put into the whole day. 11. When is the Wedding Day?
March 31, 2012 - eek, next month! 12. Where is the ceremony and reception?
Both the ceremony and reception will be at the Deering Estate. We immediate fell in love with the venue as soon as we saw it. I've always wanted to get married overlooking the ocean, and as soon as I saw the Deering property overlooking the bay with palm trees in the background, I knew that it was the perfect place for us. We're having an Indian wedding with a baraat (groom's procession where he will ride on a horse) before the ceremony. We thought the long, wooded driveway at the Deering leading up to the ceremony site would be perfect for the baraat too! 13. What are your wedding colors?
For the ceremony, our colors will be maroon, peach, and white. For the reception, our colors will be light blue, peach, and cream. We will both change into different clothes after the ceremony, which is why our colors will be different for the ceremony and reception. 14. Where are you honeymooning?
Bora Bora, Tahiti, and Moorea.
15. Favorite wedding vendor so far?
Our wedding planner, Jennifer Johnson from Jennifer J Events. Since we're planning from NY, she has been so helpful throughout this whole process! She will also be our DOC, which I know will be super helpful because I don't want to worry about any of the details or tend to anything going wrong on the wedding day! 16. Biggest wedding splurge?
Catering - we will have both indian and american food options at the wedding so that people can pick/choose what they would like to eat.
17. What is something you wish you could have at the wedding but don't?
A better back-up plan in case it rains. Most of our wedding is outside (except for the dancing at the reception) and our back-up plan isn't really ideal. We can put up a tent in the courtyard but wouldn't be able to do the ceremony or cocktail hour in the lawn if it rains. Please cross your fingers for me that it doesn't rain on March 31st! :) 18. Another Knottie whose wedding you'd like to attend? I would love to attend everyone's weddings! I love going to weddings and seeing what kinds of personal touches everyone includes in their day because they are all so different and unique! 19. Favorite book? Definitely hard to pick one but my favorites are: To Kill a Mockingbird, The Notebook, Atonement, The Time Traveler's Wife, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series 20. Favorite movie?
I have a bunch of these too! Shawshank Redeption, The Green Mile, Momento, Wedding Crashers, The Wedding Singer, Love Actually, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Bridesmaids 21. Favorite TV show? Mad Men (I have a serious crush on Don Draper), True Blood, Modern Family, Sex and the City, Friends, Seinfeld, Desperate Housewives, old school 90210, and Real World/Road Rules Challenges 22. Favorite wedding dress designer? I honestly don't really have one since I won't be wearing a white wedding dress. Instead, I will be wearing indian outfits for the ceremony and reception and have no idea which designer made them.
23. Any advice you can give to other Knotties whose big day is coming up? Although I feel like we've been planning our wedding forever (over a year now), my advice is to make sure you enjoy every second of the planning because your wedding memories start from the moment you get engaged. I'm so glad that we took our time after we got engaged, to just enjoy being engaged and ease into wedding planning. Because we took our time, we never felt stressed or rushed to make any decisions. When you start planning, try to book as much as you can, as early as you can. Some of these vendors start booking up a year in advance (or more) so try to book them early so that you can get your first pick in vendors. Also, make sure you celebrate your "checks". Everytime we booked a vendor or completed a major "check", we recorded ourselves celebrating/talking about what we just booked on video using our phones so that we can look back and see how excited we were about each step of the process. And lastly, this is your and your fiance's day - don't let other people's opinions or comments get you down. It's impossible to make EVERYONE happy so make sure that you and your fiance are both comfortable with all the decisions that are made. 24. Is there anything you wish you could change about your wedding?
Nothing really, other than wishing there was a better back-up plan. 25. Tell us your Knottie name and how you came up with it
Priya is my name, and 490 was just a random number I picked :) 26. Tell us about yourself! Hmm, what else haven't I said... Well, I love to eat and because of that, I'm having a hard time losing 10 pounds for the wedding. I know I have less than 2 months to go, but I'm really hoping that I can somehow discipline myself to work out 4-5 times a week and eat healthy! If I could, I would eat bad foods all day long - like pizza, mozzerella sticks, cookies, etc. I think I can lose the weight though. I do like to work out. I signed up to run the NYC Half Marathon in March (yes, 2 weeks before the wedding) to get myself motivated. Last weekend, I ran 9 miles non-stop, the most I have ever ran in my life! I also love to travel and can't wait to go on our honeymoon. My fiance and I haven't taken a vacation ever since we got engaged because we've been saving for the wedding so I'm dying for some relaxing vacation time! I'm not much of a planner, but do really like wedding planning. Ever free chance I get, I find myself browsing the knot boards, looking at other people's weddings on blogs, and also searching my newest addiction - Pinterest! Not sure what I'll do with all my free time after the wedding! Will have to find another project that I can use Pinterest for. :)
