Hi girls, hope you don't mind helping a nestie/bumpie (former knottie!) out. I know some of you are planning your weddings in Hawaii and aren't Hawaiian but I'm hoping some Hawaiians or locals could help me out.

DH and I are expecting our first daughter in July. DH is half-Hawaiian and it's important to him that our DD have a Hawaiian middle name. His family is very involved in their Hawaiian culture, especially his native-Hawaiian mom and grandmother.

Obviously I'm looking around online for names but thought I'd ask you if you had any that you love.

DH has close relatives named Leilani, Noelani, and Haunani so we want to stay away from those.

Any favorites? THANKS!

I was going to name Amanda, my daughter, Kanani. Kanani Violet. I now, I should have. My hormones were way out of wack after giving birth. And her dad was driving me crazy, so I let another guy, my first love, name her because that's that you do when you are 18. I still wish I had named her Kanani instead. Was going to call her Nani for short which just means beauty.

Why don't you have your mother-in-law or grandmother-in-law give your daughter her name?  In Hawaiian culture a name gets it's meaning from the person who gives it.  It would be so much more significant if one of those ladies were to bestow your daughters hawaiian name on her.  Or at least ask them if they have names they would like to use.  Don't go for something that just sounds pretty, it should have significance to your family.
