Hi There!

I keep reading that everyone is hosting their welcome bbq's on the beach in maui. My question is...how? I need details!

I saw that you can't reserve picnic tables/bbq's...so how did you plan it and what beaches did you use? We have about 35 people we'd be inviting.

Thank you!!

We aren't doing a welcome bbq instead we are having a welcome cocktail party which is 2 hours of appetizers and drinks at David Paul's Island Grill in their Sky Lounge. I called the restaurant and everyone there has been super helpful in getting things set up including David Paul himself who spent 40 minutes on the phone with me one day getting the menu, etc figured out

We are doing a welcome day at the beach followed by a BBQ. We are having it at Baldwin beach. There's lot of parking, bathrooms, showers, a huge covered picnic table area, BBQs, life guard and safe area for all ages to swim. If you want to make sure you get a certain area, send someone down early to claim a spot.

Everyone is joining us at noon at the beach so FI will get there early to get a nice spot in the shade and sun where everyone can spread out. I'm packing up a picnic lunch and will have extras, if anyone doesn't bring a lunch, but we have let everyone know to bring a picnic lunch for during the day.

Since we are just down the street from the beach, we decided to take everyone back to our place to have the welcome BBQ there. That way ppl will know exactly where the wedding is before the wedding day.

I'd suggest looking at the island's site for their parks and beaches. It'll tell you which ones have what you are looking for. Then make a plan for the BBQ from there. We went and checked out a lot of the beaches when we were on Maui last month. If you have any questions, let me know.

We hosted ours at our condo - which is what most people here with condos have done. We used the lawn space and the beach there, and did all the cooking on the grills. Made life a lot easier than lugging stuff down and then lugging it back again. Plus, my mother is obsessive about food safety, so she didn't want anything sitting out in the heat for longer than 30 minutes, so the beach wouldn't have worked for us at all.

Otherwise, you really are looking at just staking out a spot and hoping there's enough parking for everyone. And, if you're looking to do it on a weekend, you may find it a challenge, as many locals are out using the facilities too.

MY future in laws are hosting the welcome BBQ at the house they are renting.  That way they can cook and bbq all they want and drink and we have the use of the backyard and the house to entertain.  Costco trip for the supplies!

We had our Welcome BBQ at our condo complex as well, they have gorgeous grounds so we just did it there - right across the street from the beach!  It worked well for us!

These are excellent tips! Thank you all so much.

KimmyKupcakes - By any chance...did you scope out any beaches in the South Maui area? If so, did you notice any that would be good places for BBQs?

Kamaole 1,2, or 3. However limited on picnic tables. Ask your guest to bring beach chairs or a nice big mat :)) I believe kam 3 is the only park with restrooms.

Summers, Holidays and weekends are when the beaches/parks are the busiest. Save your spot as early as possible.
