Yikes! Our cupcake vendor BANYAN TREE DELI just shut its doors. They wont answer the phone. They emailed me and said the owner was in the hospital, but for some reason, Im finding that hard to believe.

I also heard places in Lahania close all the time.

I think our wedding planner is also selling their business (she is so nice).

They (vendors) just cant adapt to the changing market, can't keep charging these insane prices...people will price hunt!

ps...I need help! Anyone have any tips for cupcakes on the island. I dont want to spend over $4 each (we are buying 80)...and if possible, would like to avoid the big Costco ones. Also, so many vendors have rediculous fees, rentals, delivery, set-up...so frustrating.

Oh, no. I'm sorry to hear this. I have to say I'm surprised, too. Many places sold their baked goods and chocolate dipped items. They even sold them on the boat we went on and in Kihei. They were all over the place. Are you sure they are closed closed?

Mama's fish house makes really great cake. They can make cupcakes, too. Originally they were going to make us cupcakes. You should check with them. Lezley is the one you would talk to.

Just an update...

I was concerned about my baker, so I checked Yelp and it says Cake Walk Bakery in Paia is CLOSED! I panicked, then emailed Heidi right away! She said the person she sold the storefront bakery to closed the doors in 2010 and that she is still going on! Her business is now called Maui Sweet Cakes. She mentioned the focus being on dessert bars, which is something we decided upon back in September along with a cake, and that there will be some great new offerings! When we did a tasting then, her cakes were fabulous! So I don't doubt her desserts will be just as great! :)

So, we decided to do another tasting when we go in April to try out her new stuff, so I'm really excited about that and will make sure to post about it!
