I am literally one phone call away from calling off any kind of actual wedding and just getting married on our honeymoon. I have visited some reception locations and the prices make me nauseous! Almost $8,000 just for space, food and alcohol is absurd! I don't want anything super fancy, just a space big enough to house about 130 people for food and dancing! I don't want to have to use a specific caterer or be restricted to rediculous demands. Is anyone else having this issue in Baton Rouge? What ever happened to renting a simple hall and having someone agree to cook burgers and other such diner food for your simple, relaxed wedding?! I have family that cooks for HUNDREDS of people at a camp in Texas. I know they can handle this! So why won't any spaces in BR accomodate me! Grrr!

I felt the same way. We have looked in New Orleans and found a place that is not the typical recpetion hall but for 250 people all the food, cakes, liquor, table linens, chair covers and sashes in the color you choose you can't beat $5,550. We aren't trying ot go broke having a wedding and we just want to eat drink dance and be married! So if no one likes our venue they can leave! Most places in New Orleans have gone up on their prices too. The venue I am using is Smilies in Harahan!
