Who did your alterations?

I bought my dress online (sample) and I need a good, reliable seamstress to do the alterations. I'm petite so NOTHING fits me off the rack- the hem and straps will have to be adjusted, at a minimum. I'd like to only have 2 fittings, at most, because I don't live in Houston, so it's a plus if it's someone who will do a fitting and finish things up the week before the wedding. It's just ridiculous to keep going back and forth!I've made an appointment for an estimate at Beautiful U, but it seems they are very busy and it may be difficult for me to get their time- I can only make it to Houston on Fridays and Saturdays. Appreciate the recommendations!

I recommend Katy Custom Bridal. They were able to do mine in two fittings. They are great to work with. :) I had only Fridays and Saturdays as well so I know how you feel.

I used Arlene at Beautiful U. She was able to do it in two fittings. Most people I know used her or Katy Custom like pp suggested.

I was recommended to Katy Custom Bridal and went there for my bustle and adjusting the buttons on my removable straps because I am also petite. They did an excellent job, very well run family shop. Reasonably priced and they work around the clock to get the job done. I doubt you would need adjustments after you are fitted the first time. They are very accurate and will fix it on the spot if its not perfect the first time. highly recommended from me!

Do you think I should go get estimates at both, or just pick one? Beautiful U said an estimate is $25, don't know how much (or if ) Katy charges.

Katy Custom Bridal does not charge, I believe. I've heard a couple of bad things about Beautiful U, but never anything bad about KCB. Just that BU is always busy and didn't get things done right the first time... just my opinion.

I seriously would never pay for an estimate on an alteration.  It should be like a quote.... FREE or no-thank-you!!  Of course, that may just be me bcuz I'm cheap.  I had minor alterations done on mine at JN Tailor in Katy. It was affordable, quick, and done right the first time - which is all I could ask for.

I can understand why they charge an estimation fee.  Arlene is extremely busy and for ppl to just come in for an estimate, that does take time away.  It's not just looking at the dress, it's having you go in, but your dress on and then have them study it, so yes, it does take time.  I know some other places don't charge, but that's probably b/c they aren't busy enough or they have more than enough staff. With all that being said, I've heard great things about both Arlene @ Beautiful U and Katy shop.  I wouldn't drive out to Katy, only b/c it's to damn far, and there go my $25 in drive time and gas.  LOL  Now if you are already in the west area, than, I definitely recommend trying out the Katy shop.Whoa, that was long!  LOL

I purchased a sample dress that basically had to be reconstructed to fit me.  I had to the the whole chest area redone, taken in all over, hem, shorten straps, bustle, and added in cups.  My dress was alencon lace so the hem had to be had done.  It was a ridiculous amount of work for a great price.  I used DT Tailors on Wilcrest and I-10.

Linda's couture in uptown park. She is amazing. It's a bit expensive but her work is worth it. Hope this helps.
