How do J Crew bridesmaid dresses run?

Does anyone know whether they run small, or true to size, or even a bit larger?  I am angling to buy a J Crew BM dress to wear in my sister's wedding in April (I'm her only attendant), but the one I really love is a 6 from a past-season, that they don't sell anymore.  I found one new/unused, but...since I usually wear a street size 8 for a dress- am unsure whether I can manage to fit into the 6.  Do the seams have ANY room to let out at all?  Anyone have first-hand experience, here, that can give me a better idea of how they fit?

TIA!

I wore a J Crew BM dress for my SIL's wedding.  I am usually between a 6 and 8, depending on the store.  I ordered both and I ended up keeping the 8.  I think they run a little small, so if you are usually an 8, it might be tough to fit the 6.  I didn't have it altered, so not sure if it could be let out a whole size (but usually BM dresses have extra seam allowances, I think).

I think the J Crew at the Chestnut Hill Mall (or that area) has the bridal selection in store.  You could go try on something similar and see if it fits!

The only other caution I have is that the dress I wore was the Sophia.  It has a V-neck front and it is pretty low cut.  I am an A cup, and i felt a little exposed in it.  If you have a larger chest,  i'd definitely try on the style before hand.  I think they make their dresses for smaller girls (any bigger and I would have been popping out of it!).

PS.  If you need a Sophia in Silk Tricotine, Vintage Burgundy, size 8, I have one!

I found they ran about true to size. If anything, slightly big but not a full size. The one area they don't seem to run big is the chest, so if that is an issue, the smaller size probably won't cut it.

Is the one you want on final sale? If you call the store directly to order it and tell them it is for a wedding, they will usually give you the option to return it still. Or, you could go into the J Crew in Chestnut Hill and try on that style in other colors to check the fit-- you don't actually need an appointment, you can just go in and they will put you in the Crew Cuts dressing room for more privacy. (I see it says Indiana, but this is posted in the Boston board so not sure if you are local to Boston or not).

I agree with pp that said they ran a tad small and I also had to go a size up. It could have just been the dress that was choosen.  You can always get a larger size and their alterations are free( by the store) so you can have fit to your body.

Thanks, gals!  I'm in Indy, but the wedding's in Boston - and more brides seem to go with the JCrew option out on the East Coast - so I thought I'd get a wider response here.  This is really helpful, thanks!  :)

The dress I'm considering is actually in Atlantic Blue, and seems to be the color my sis is most attached to - so thx so much for the offer of the Burgundy, but we'll need the blue in this case!. :)

Good tip on the bust - the "girls" are not quite as perky since I had my first babe, so - might be less of an issue than it would have been a couple yrs back, but still - good to know!!!  :)

    Sure, good luck!

I just read through your siggy, wow congrats on your son!  Sounds like it was quite a process!  (I'll admit I don't know what most of your acronyms mean though...)

Thanks.  Yes, he was indeed a project - but the outcome was well worth it! :)  The boards on the sister site have their own lingo - more acronyms. But hopefully you won't ever have to learn some of them!  ;)
