Hi! I just got engaged last week and am SO exciting! My groom is from Boston originally, and we decided to have the wedding in Boston! We are looking for an intimate venue for 35 guests, where we can have the ceremony there on the property (either outside or inside) and then a nice coctail hour and dinner...all in the same place. Looking for someplace charming and nice. I am working on lots of web searches but I would absolutely LOVE any venue recommendations as I am not very familiar with the area. Thanks so much!! Katie

About how much were you looking to spend? :)
Just a couple of suggestions to get you started without knowing budget constraints...

Nashoba Winery in Bolton, MA. For 35 people, you'd want something on the smaller side. The Winery has a max of 75 people, so I think it might be right up your alley. Another place is Asa Waters Mansion in Milbury, MA. I think that's even smaller. Beautiful, but small.

What kind of reception are you planning to have? Sit down dinner? To be honest, if that's your budget, I suggest a cake and punch reception. Cakes alone are $2 to $5 per person. I suggest that you look into cheaper buffet options. My previous suggestions are not within your budget. Sorry. :(

Sorry, I meant our total budget was $5,000-$10,000 - just looked again and see how it looks like I said $5 or $10 per person :)

Not sure how your fiance feels about the area, but I saw a really cute wedding at the Ashmont Grill in Dorchester. Here are the pictures. http://www.stylemepretty.com/massachusetts-weddings/2012/02/01/ashmont-grill-wedding-by-spring-smith-studios/
If that's too casual, you could try hotels in the area and ask about there smaller rooms. The Taj (and this may be out of your budget) has an incredibly pretty/trendy rooftop area for events that is very classic, old world Hollywood awesome. I saw a wedding here that had the ceremony, reception and dinner in this spot. I think they also have smaller rooms--but the style is very different for each room.
My other favorite would be UpStairs on the Square in Cambridge. Restaurant with private rooms. Here are pictures from a wedding there: http://annabriggsphotography.com/?p=342

Hi
I'm having a 30 person wedding at the Alden Castle (Veroni) in Brookline. I have the same budget 10K for everything and so far we are under budget! The planners there are great and they are truly working with my budget. I'm from NYC so I know what its like to be planning a wedding in a city that you don't know. Good luck!

There's a nice smaller ballroom at the Boston Harbor Hotel with gorgeous ocean views. It has a max capacity of 60 for banquet. It's an upscale property so not sure what their prices are but would be an awesome venue. The hotel is right on the water and near Faneuil Hall for after party enjoyment. They also have some outdoor spaces - I've seen lots of people do their cocktail receptions outdoors behind the hotel.
I'm originally from Minnesota but live in Boston. Feel free to message me if you have other questions. Would be happy to help out a fellow MN gal!
