I was in the same place about 8 months ago......there is a barn called tollgate farm in Novi, its run by MSU's master gardeners, its 169 acres and you can have your recpetion in there big green barn. it sounds perfect but we didnt have the best expeirence with the staff. they were really hard to get a hold of and they ended up raising the price significatly when we went to put our deposit down so we couldnt go with them , but you might have a different expierence.

there is also a barn at the octogon house in washington mi just north of 26 mile on vandyke. its very rustic and there really ist a place to have a ceremony on location, but it is fairly inexpencive.

we ended up going with Indian Springs Metro Park in white lake. I live in warren and it took me 45 min to get up there so its still with in an hour. You get married out side under a big tree and the reception hall is very unque and you have that up north out in the woods feeling. with floor to cieling windows and stained wood on the walls. the hall overlooks  a pond and rolling hills, im actually very happy we changed our mind and its definily worth looking into!!!

    good luck with your search!

Cobblestone Farms is the cheapest that I have found but they book up quickly. Also in Ann Arbor is Misty Farm, and looks beautiful.

There's a place calld the Blue Dress Barn near Benton Harbor.   On the other side of the state, but it's gorgeous if you're willing to drive.

I had a hard time finding a affordable barn within in an hour of troy as well. Everything I liked was too expensive for us. I suggest you check out milestone barn...its near Saginaw so about 2 hours away but very affordable and laid back on the rules.

Hi! We recently booked the Octagon House in Washington for our Summer 2013 wedding. We went this past Friday to check it out while a wedding was taking place. It was rustic and charming all pulled together! We are actually renting the entire property for the day and will be married outside beside the home. There is plenty of space to put up a tent with chairs, or have your guest join you in the natural setting under one of the large oak trees. If you have a small cermony, less than 50 you can host the ceremony inside. The house can be opened for the restroom and a tour for your guest at some point in your day.

We found out about this venue from a catering service and the value is better than any other we've shopped. It will be some DIY but for me it is worth the 20 minutes from home that I can add my personal touch.

    Good luck!

    Hi Laukra!

I'm looking into the Octagon House, but can't seem to find any good pictures online. As I'm out of state, would be extremely helpful to get a better sense of the property/barn before flying in to visit. Would you mind sending me any images you have? I would so appreciate it!
