Belle Isle canceled May/June/July contracts for the Grand Prix

I had both my wedding ceremony and reception planned for June 2 on Belle Isle. I found out the Grand Prix event is happening June 1-3. So, essentially 7 months of planning and dreaming was gone just like that.

Luckily we found a new spot! I posted this a few months ago, and am reposting hoping to find other people whose contract was canceled on Belle Isle. I just found out that they JUST canceled contracts for May and July - has anyone else reading this been effected by the Grand Prix?!

    I'm getting married on Belle Isle in mid-April and haven't been affected. My catering manager hasn't even mentioned this as an issue. I have a really hard time believing they're doing this during the height of wedding season. Then again, the island is city-run and they're not so good at running things. I'm so sorry it happened to you and glad you found another place.

    I looked into getting married there on June 9. I am so glad I decided against it.

    Back when we first got engaged, I looked at Belle Isle for both my and my MOH's weddings but read horrible terrible reviews about their management.  A lot of brides had really similar experiences to yours, where they double booked or cancelled for no reason.  Based on that, we opted for a different venue.  I was always thinking back on Belle Isle like we should have risked it, but reading your post makes me sure that this must be a common thing for them.  How awful.. We took our E-pix there and they wanted to charge us money for that too, even though it was just my MOH taking them with a digital camera, not a pro photographer or anything.

    I'm glad you found somewhere else to go.  Just curious, where'd you pick?  We wound up with a greenhouse/nursery in Pontiac because I still wanted the conservatory feeling.

    I also looked into getting married here and heard horrible stories about management, canceling contracts, not being there to unlock the building, etc. I am so glad that decided against having my wedding here. I am glad you found another venue.
