So FI and I are not going to go on a honeymoon right away, but we are going to take a couple days off and "runaway". We were thinking of possibly going to Duluth, but I thought I would ask on here and see if anyone has any suggestions. Places to stay, other places besides Duluth, things to do etc. We are getting married in September if that helps. And we don't want more than a 3.5-4 hour drive. TIA!

I love south eastern MN / South west WI along the Mississippi river valley. Beautiful fall colors and bluffs.

Check out the Bed and Breakfasts near
Lanesboro, MN
Lake City, MN
Stockholm, WI

There are many parks to get in a lovely walk and bike rentals/trails too.

FI and I actually plan to do a little tri-state road trip and stop at all the places Guy Fieri's been to on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives since there's quite a few he's been to in MN, WI and IA.

FI and I actually plan to do a little tri-state road trip and stop at all the places Guy Fieri's been to on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives since there's quite a few he's been to in MN, WI and IA.

Check out Madeline Island. We went off-season in September a couple of years ago and basically had the place to ourselves AND booked our room at an amazing price.

We are actually going to do a mini moon up North as well. We are going to Lutsen/Tofte. We actually got engaged at Bluefin Bay so we will be staying there again, most likely. There are many things to do up there if you like the outdoors. We will probably travel around, go up into Canada, Door County WI, etc.

There are a few on the Food Network website-they've got a search engine for them now.

In the North Shore area he's gone to Duluth Grill in Duluth, Gordy's Hi-Hat in Cloquet, Anchor Bar in Superior, At Sara's Table Chester Creek Cafe in Duluth, & Northern Waters Smokehaus in Duluth.

A few friends and I went to Duluth Grill this past summer and it was SO good :-)

Try looking at vrbo.com for places to stay. It's a website where owners rent their private lake homes/cabins. I'm using it to find our staycation after the wedding.

Our favorite place to stay in Duluth is Fitgers. Rooms are really nice and the staff is amazing! Plus they have awesome food/beer and a free cab service. I've heard good things about Grand Superior Lodge in Two Harbors.

A few weeks ago we stayed at Blufin Bay in Tofte and had a wonderful experience, it would be so pretty in the fall.

Other areas that I'd look into are Red Wing, Bayfield WI, Madeline Island, Brainerd, Lanesboro & possibly the Black Hills?

For our honeymoon, we are actully going to Duluth. It's our place we go all the time. We ALWAYS stay at Canal Park Lodge. It's a bit more pricey since it's the newest hotel in Canal Park, but it's amazing! And it has the most comfterble beds we have ever stayed in! Great service too! It's around 17ish to 200ish a night depending what room you do obv. But they have a lot of options.

If you go to the Duluth area, I'd recommend checking out Larsmont Cottages. They are about 20 minutes north of Duluth, and 4 minutes south of Two Harbors. They are right on Lake Superior, and have an awesome restaurant onsite. DH and I have been there several times and just love it.

They have free bicycles and canoes for guests to use, an outdoor hot tub overlooking the lake, a sauna, and pool. They have lots of cute yard games like horseshoes that you can use on their lawn overlooking the lake, just ask at the front desk to use them. They also have awesome firepits with Adirondack chairs all along the lakefront, and they set them up every night with wood, so all you need to do is light the match. It's really romantic.

If you like outdoorsy stuff, it's very close to Gooseberry Falls and Spllit Rock Lighthouse state parks.

IMHO it would be a great spot to relax after a wedding. Really nice place...

H & I did a mini-moon in Duluth after our September wedding last year.

We stayed at the Inn on Gitche Gume, & had a great experience there. We were there for 3 days, I think...? We brought our 4-wheeler & did some 4-wheeling up in Silver Bay one day, went "sight seeing" at Gooseberry Falls & surrounding areas. We also went to Spirit & went on the coaster a few times, which was a blast!

We pretty much just found a place to stay & then played everything by ear. It was so nice & relaxing to just sleep till whenever, go do whatever you wanted, when you wanted & not have any plans or people to accommodate to, other then each other!
