Bridesmaids Dresses

My MOH is size 24/26, what style dress is best for her body type? I also have 1 that's boob-tastic and another that's short and squat. I would like them all to wear the same dress.

Suggestions?

Re: Bridesmaids Dresses

  • Well, not everyone who is a size 24/26 has the same body type or feels comfortable in the same dress.  Have you asked your bridesmaids about what styles they might prefer and what they want to avoid?

A-lines tend to flatter most body styles, as do fabrics with more weight to them (ie: not chiffon, jersey).  Shiny fabrics seem to accentuate bumps and lumps.    I think more conservative styles woud work best on a group of women with different body shapes and sizes -- nothing too tight, low cut, or reveraling.

Is there a reason you want them all in the same style dress?  Would you consider finding a color you like and letting the bridesmaids choose whichever dress they want in that color?  Davids Bridal and Alfred Angelo have a lot of different styles that come in popular colors. Thi way each woman could wear a dress she feels comfortable (and looks great!) in, and it allows each woman an element of choice to wear something they like.

  • My girls all picked out this dress from David's Bridal. I had picked out length & color & told them they could pick out any dress they wanted & didn't have to match. They all ended up picking the same dress because they felt the most comfortable in it. One of my girls is tall & a size 8 & no chest, another sikinny but wide hips & no chest, one who was petite & large chested & another average height & large chested. The top fit all the girls no matter what their chest size and with the a line style it fit all hip & butt sizes. They especially loved the rouging (sp?) at the waist area because they felt it hid their bellies & felt like they could eat and not have to worry about wearing spanx to hold their stomachs in. They all looked fabulous on my wedding day.

  • Ditto to what the others said.  No one dress flatters all figures, and it's silly to try to force the issue.  Women who are confident and happy with how they look photograph much better anyway, so let them pick their own style.

I gave my bridesmaids a color, and a length, and let them take care of the rest (even material was up to them).  They all coordinated beautifully, and were SO grateful that they weren't forced into something they felt gross in.

  • Yep. I did the same thing.  I told them the color. They even picked the length.  The only thing I said was they needed to agree on length. (there were only two of them, and we shopped together, so it was easier to get a consenses).  They both had a long and a short "favorite" and then they decided together which direction to go, long or short.

It turned out beautiful, and they were both comfortable and very happy with their choices.
