my first post and some info on mandalay bay!

Hi! Since around March I have probably looked at this board at least once a day, but this is my first post!  You all have been so helpful in answering any questions! So first I want to say "Hi" and thank you for all your help!

After a lot of research at the beginning of the year, we decided in April to book the Media Suite at Mandalay Bay for my reception and we are having the ceremony in the Platinum Chapel at Mandalay Bay.  But once I started reading all the negative reviews with in-suite receptions at Mandalay Bay, I started getting a little worried!

This week I called my wedding coordinator at Mandalay Bay- she wasn't there-but I spoke with the director of the Wedding Chapel, Ada.  I told her I was starting to have hesitation about having my reception in the Media Suite due to all the negative reviews recently on the knot boards.

She said the reason some people are having their suites moved is because they aren't having their wedding ceremony at Mandalay Bay, so it is just a regular suite reservation.  She said if I am having my ceremony at Mandalay Bay, she can link the wedding with my media suite reservation so they can make sure the suites/preferences don't get changed.  I e-mailed Ada my media suite room confirmation and she coordinated with the hotel operations manager and he placed notes on my account and setup my media suite reservation as a wedding.

I also reserved the connecting room to the Media Suite so we won't have any problems with noise (and plus we need a little bit more room).

I am very happy with the way Ada addressed (and hopefully resolved - we will see on my wedding day) my issue!  It seemed like she was aware of the problems that are coming up on the knot boards and they are doing their best to accommodate us.

Hopefully this helps some of you!

So they're basically saying if you don't have your ceremony with them, you're SOL if you're using a suite for the reception. What a bummer.

This is what my wedding coordinator told me, she even gave me a screen shot of the what the computer says when they pull up my reservation boldly stating I am with the chapel and I am not to be moved. I think I've e-mailed my coordinator every time a bride came back with a complaint about Mandalay Bay, I just wanted to make sure everyone on the wedding chapel side was aware of the issues brides had been having. My coordinator actually just e-mailed me yesterday letting me know she is continuing to work on the issues that have come up and is trying to assure they done't happen in the future.

This makes a lot of sense to me. If you are dropping $$ by using their chapel, you need the piece of mind that your reception room is going to be moved!

    YEP!

It does suck for those who are not using it though. BUT. They also offer it as a package so they probably also want to make sure those who use MB catering and paid extra, have the room. To them it just seems like "Another guest..."

If you're dropping $375+/night on a room you shouldn't have to worry about it chapel or not.  I've seen a bunch of negative comments on their facebook lately too with the room issues; not sure what they're doing unless lots of high rollers have been hitting the casino without reservations lately and that's who they're bumping the rooms for.

Welcome to the board!!!  When is your wedding day?  What do you have left to plan?

That's great piece of mind for you but totally sucks for anyone not having their wedding there.

Why should it matter? Money is money, if I paid for a suite and then they changed it because I wasn't having my wedding there, oooh there would be H*** for someone to pay.

I agree, but if you are paying $375/night and someone else is paying $1200ish for the chapel + $375 night and someone else is paying $1200ish for the chapel +$375/night + $$$ for MB's catering, they are going to cater to who ever is paying them more. I'm sure there is a pecking order and money always talks.

In theory but I've gotten the feeling that the departments there all hate each other and rarely know how to communicate, unfortunately.  We bought out Mix for a Saturday night and I couldn't even get an early check in on the skyview suite since that one was not part of what the casino was taking care of.

Thanks for the welcome's! My wedding day is September 10th! I can't believe it's almost here! I have almost everything already booked - now it's just the little stuff.. I need to think about the favors (we were thinking of shot glasses.. mostly because we collect shot glasses, so it's kind of personal to us).  And plus they will come in handy during the reception ;)

That's good.  OOOOO 9/10/11, I likey!!! Shot glasses would be cool.  We, well I collect shot glasses so that would be really cool.  Would you get them personalized or just some standard LV ones?
  • edited December 2011
I like the shot glasses idea; I would have gone with that but koozies ended up being a lot cheaper and my wife collects those so we did custom koozies and decks of playing cards.

If you are going to do custom shot glasses, check out http://www.4imprint.com/, that's where we got the koozies.

Not sure how you feel about kids being around but several of our friends went to the MB beach the Sunday after our wedding and said only the Moorea Beach Club was enjoyable, but you had to pay to get in there of course.  The main beach, wave pool, etc. were overrun with little kids running everywhere like it was an amusement park,  so romance was not happening.

Or if you have a $25k marker and decided to just drop in for the weekend. And you come by at least once a quarter. They aren't even getting your room rate there because you're comped.

This is totally why we went off strip with a smaller hotel.  We feel the service is better and that we, and all our guests, will be treated well.   The MB doesn't give a sh!t if I bring my little wad of cash back to their hotel, wedding or not.  Now, if I was a player there, it might be different.  If you have a history it might be different.

Try to get a contract for the room.  You might not be able to use a 30% off coupon or anything but if you could get it in writing with remediation worked into the contract, you'll be better off.

Met with DJ Godzilla tonight.  He does a lot of in-suites.  He basically said the same thing - that MB is trying to discourage in-suites without using the MB wedding services.  I got the impression that they might even be making up noise complaints and moving rooms around and such just to get rid of in-suites in general.  It wouldn't surprise me, and it's really shady.  It would be better if they just came out and forbid it all together, like part of the rental terms or something.  They could find ways to discourage it without ruining weddings!

    Hello and welcome Jenneil.
I booked the Vista Suite for August 20th and really worried we may be kicked out of the suite because I'm having my ceremony at Chapel of the Flowers. I'm really debating on canceling it there and just having the ceremony at Mandalay Bay so I have a better chance of getting the suite and not having problems during the reception.

We got the Garden Bungalow Cabanas at Mandalay Bay Beach. It is sectioned off from the rest. No Kids, lots of booze!

I also agree with the $375 a night comment. We got our Vista Suite, but we are stayed at the Four Seasons and for the same price, it was night and day difference on service. For a regular room at the four seasons with our block rate it was $20 more a night than Mandalay's standard room. My friends that stayed at Four Seasons said they would never stay anywhere else on the strip in the future. Something to consider. The Suites are more expensive though and they would frown on bringing in outside catering.

Bottom line - if you book a suite, for specific dates, you should get said suites on those dates. Regardless of if you have a wedding there or not.

Note to self: book Signature.  I've stayed at MGM 7 times and found it to be VERY crowded (even with children).  Obviously, Signature should be different since they have their own pools... +1 for them!

I'm amazed how many people bring their kids to LV.  I saw a family with two young kids at the Bellagio fountains at midnight one time - both kids were screaming and crying.  Stupid, selfish people.
