Mandalay Bay Vista Suite Receptions

Whoever has used the Vista Suite at Mandalay Bay for wedding receptions ~ what did you do as far as liquor/beer for the reception? Do you just buy a bunch ahead of time?! Not sure how this work!  Also, as far as food, most people just have a catering company bring food, right?

Re: Mandalay Bay Vista Suite Receptions

  • You can have Mandalay provide alcohol service and bartenders, at a big price, but if you want the least hassle, that would be it.

Next up would be supplying your own booze.  Lee's Discount Liquor is only a mile or two south of Mandalay on the strip so it's easy to get to by car; they have everything you'll need at good prices.

9110 South Las Vegas Blvd, 89123

You'll also need to pick up some coolers and a ton of ice; there's a walmart super center a couple miles from Mandalay, unfortunately in the opposite direction of Lee's, where you can buy huge styrofoam coolers for about $10/each, you can fill them with ice there too since it is an absolute b*tch trying to fill them with the hotel ice machines (I tried).  That walmert is at:

    3075 E Tropicana

Then you can either go the self-serve route or you can hire bartenders.  I'm pretty sure Masterpiece offers bartender services if you supply the booze, and another place I've heard of is http://www.thelgirlsbartenders.com/

Masterpiece is a popular food option too if you want to have them do both.

We went to Lee's for the alcohol, mixers, pop, and water. My brother in law went (he borrowed our rental car) and bought everything for us the morning of the wedding while we were out doing our strip tour before the ceremony. We gave him $350 and he got WAY more then we needed.

To keep stuff cold we just went the bathtub route. The bell hops even helped my brother in law fill up bags at the ice machine and bring them back to the room. I must say Mandalay Bay had GREAT bell hops.

Here's a picture of what $350 got us, well this is the canned and bottled stuff, there was still about 5 bottles of hard alcohol at the bar as well as pineapple, orange and cranberry juice. It still makes me sad to see this cause probably over half got left behind.

Oh and as far as food goes we went with Masterpiece Cuisine. It was about $1000 for 35 people. We got pulled pork sliders, beef sliders, blue cheese tarts, crab cakes,  quesadilla trumpets, artichoke dip, gosh there was one more thing I can't for the life of me remember what it was.

ETA: Sorry the picture is so small, but the tub was about 3/4 full of drinks

  • I am getting married at Mandalay Bay with an L suite reception in November.
I decided to book absolute to provide alcohol and bartender for my 4 hour reception.  The price I quoted and shows up in my contract is about $20/pp for
beer/wine and alcohol.  I was shocked how inexpensive it was and so worth not having to worry about buying the liquor, ice, chilling it etc.....
I have to say this board has been invaluable in helping me get my wedding planned.

We had the same issue.  I left two coolers full of beer with the tops slightly off in the Mandalay lobby hoping someone would run off with it.

The liquor I shipped home at the UPS store since I was already sending a bunch of other stuff back; UPS didn't want to pack it since it's against their regulations but I talked them into it provided it was kept hush hush lol.

  • Thanks for providing that...I had no idea what the price would be for providing bartenders & alcohol. Thats not bad at all!

  • We are having our wedding at Mandalay bay at Valley of the Falls in Next year!  We booked the Vista suite for an in suite reception.  We wanted a cocktail hour post ceremony for our guests while we take pictures, so we haved book and Irish pub called Ri Ra at an inexpensive rate for 2 hours!  There will be appetizers and drinks! After the cocktail hour is when we move up to the suite for drinks, food, and music.  We booked a DJ for the suite, DJ Godzilla.....and Master piece cuisine for the food and alcohol as well as regular drinks!  We were able to negotiate our price as well.  We booked an extra photographer, other than what mandalay supplies you, named Bentley WIlson at a great rate!   We will be renting a few extra tables and chairs for the suite.

My concern is decorating the suite.  Most people have said you dont have much to decorate, but I do want it to look like a reception.  I have heard or read people saying they have decorated it with votive candles and rose pedals.  ANY SUGGESTiONS??
  • Is Mandalay Bay okay with having a reception in the suite if you are NOT buying their food and drinks?

It seems like all hotels frown on the idea, but I'm worried that my party will be shut down because it's not organized by them??
  • Yes they're okay with you having a reception in the suite. I too am having my reception in the Vista suite and I have my own food/beverages coming in. The only concern I have....is it enough space for about 65 guests. I'm a bit concern.

</div><div>Hi, Congrats!!</div><div>Did the room work out for you? We are planning to have a reception in our room for about 50 people and just was wondering?</div>
  • Hey guys!

I am looking at some Vegas Venues and Im a little discourages that many of them dont offer a FULL reception (i.e.: dancing, traditional wedding activities, etc.).  It seems that many of the reception options are restaurants in the casino....

I heard that you can have them cater a ballroom...has anyone done this? If so, how was it? Was it worth it?
  • I am concerned - I just got off the phone with Mandalay Bay and they told me I cannot use outside vendors as it is a "union" issue... Can anyone help?
  • I am freaking out, because they told me absolutely NO outside food or beverage, and I am NOT paying 7 bucks a beer to have their caterers bring it to us. I also have booked the Vista Suite. Do they have security that check your card before you go up the elevator? If not, I'm going to go with the bathtub route..just wondering how you get all those 30 packs of beer past security..
  • Ofcourse they will say that. But heaps of brides have hosted very succesful in suite receptions in the vista suites. I think a recent reviewer even had the bell staff bring the booze up to their room and tipped housekeeping extra to take out the rubbish.

The vista does not require card access to reach it.  You'll be fine, just monitor your noise because that can bring the Mandalay rentacops.

  • Lots of people use the suites and have parties, so unless you're making a ton of noise, they won't shut you down. The hotels in Vegas are used to seeing people dragging coolers, party trays, and hookers through the lobby, so they won't bat an eye.

We're buying all of our alcohol and filling coolers and buckets with ice.
