Hi! We are considering the Venetian for our ceremony and have a couple more days to submit the deposit.  I have some concerns about the photography -- I'm not very impressed by the images I've seen online on the Venetian's website, as well as the photographer's site.  I was wondering what those of you who have been married there thought of the photography.  Also, we're you able to bring in your own photographer for after the ceremony (on the grounds, etc.)?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Vegas board.

The strict rule at the Venetian is that you cannot have any commercial photographer on any Venetian-owned property.  Now whether they'll actually do something about it if you bring your own photog for non-ceremony time, I don't know.  Venetian was one of the first properties my wife and I looked at because we liked the grounds, but when they told us we couldn't even have our own photographer in the private ballroom we would have been renting for our reception, that really turned us off of them.  Of course when we found out for a full day of photography and digital rights to the images from Cashman would have cost us over $9000, that was the proverbial straw that broke the camels back and we began looking elsewhere.

Would they have actually kicked our photographer out of our private reception?  Probably not, but between the pricing to do it by the book with them, and the threat, it wasn't worth the stress.

If you search for Cashman in this forum you'll find lots of posts related to them.  The general consensus is that their work ranges from average to great depending on the photographer you get, and everyone is in agreement that their pricing completely sucks.  The Cashman photographers that service a specific property are static so if you are going to go with the Venetian and use them for the ceremony or more, you should ask to see the portfolio's of the photogs that are stationed there, pick one you like and then insist on that being the one that does your session.

Did they tell you about this policy or was it in the contract?  I reviewed the contract and based on the language, it appears that you cannot have a photographer in the chapel; however, I don't see anything in the contract that says that photographers are not permitted on the property whatsoever.

That being said, I trust what you say is true.  I just want to know why this isn't apparent on the face of the contract :/  How long ago did you meet with them?  Maybe they've adjusted their policy?

Thanks!

We were told that it was resort policy by the wedding coordinator face to face in what I think would have been fall 2010.  She brought it up after giving us the $9000 figure when I said well it sounds like it would make more sense for us to just have a different photographer do our photos around the grounds and at the reception.  I confirmed it with the group events staff since they were who we were discussing pricing with for renting a ballroom.  But yeah, I should remember to include the date when I tell people about this going forward since it's certainly possible that things have changed in the past 18 months.  If you do find this policy to no longer be in effect, please let me know.

I just wanted to follow up with the Venetian photography.  You can have your own photographer at any of the restaurants/bars there because they are not owned by the Venetian.  The wedding planner and the various event directors there confirmed this.  So, this would be any of the places in the Grand Canal Shoppes or in "Restaurant Row."    I also spoke with various private photogs that said that the Canyon Ranch Spa is also inependently-owned; thus, the Venetian should technically not be able to restrict photography there either.  (I'll have to get confirmation of this from the spa.)

Also, I believe that the photography at the Venetian is not/no longer Cashman.  It is now "Venetian Photo Studios" and you work with Venetian staff.  That being said, we still hired our own person for our reception.
