Blackberry BOGO help

I'm on Verizon and I just got a new phone last year, after dropping my old phone in the ocean, lol. So I guess it's another year before I'm eligible for an upgrade. I use the Alias 2 phone, which does not have Internet access.

My brother is due for an upgrade, so he's planning on getting a Blackberry. They're running a 2-for-1 deal, so he offered the free one to MH, but MH wants to cancel his Verizon account and get the iPhone instead.

I told my brother that, if I am eligible to use the Blackberry, I'll take the other one. He's going to the store this week to get his and I'll go with him.

Any idea if I'll be able to do this, or if I will get socked with a giant fee if I try to get the BB? I know I'll have to upgrade my plan to include Internet usage, which is fine, but I don't want to pay any extra fees on top of that for "canceling" my current phone/plan ... which I'm not doing, because I'm just asking them to give me a more expensive plan.

I have no idea how all of this works, because I've only ever gotten a new phone when I was eligible for for one after a few years, and even then I only ever picked out one of the low-tech free/cheap ones. Any advice?

I did the same thing this past September.  I did not have to pay any additional fees since i was staying with Verizon.  You are eligible for the blackberry as long as your new plan is still with Verizon.  Make sense?

I don't think there would be a fee or anything (I've changed my plan around a bit, including switching back and forth between a Blackberry and a regular phone, and switching over to a family plan with my husband, without them thinking I was canceling anything), but I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up having to extend your contract for another 2 years.  I feel like every time I switch my plan or phone I end up with a new 2-year commitment.  Which isn't ideal because I want an iphone but hate cancellation fees :)

You shouldn't have any additional fees. Just the cost of whatever new plan you go with and the charge for internet/data which I believe is $30 a month.

</div><div>You are not buying a new phone, you are being given a phone, so they would handle it just as if you decided to activate a old phone you had.  No fee for that.  But it will cost you $30 more a month.  If I were you, I would cancel with your H and both get the iPhone, if you are going to pay $30 more a month anyway, why not have a phone that does every thing you could possible imagine, but that is just my thinking.  </div>

Can you please let me know if they let you take the free phone.  My husband got the Driod when they were offering buy a Driod and get the Droid Eris for free,  I was going to take the Driod Eris but since my 2 year contract was not up at the time they would not let me.  When they offer buy 1 get one free the free phone has to be used with the new contract.  I would have been able to do it if my 2 year contract was up.  I am curious what they tell you.

If your are just taking your brother's free phone that shouldn't be a problem at all. It's just switching your phone and upgrading your plan.

We have the problem like xodjfxo where one phone on our family is up for upgrade and they won't let us get the BOGO since the other isn't.

Thanks! We're going later tonight so hopefully it works out.

My brother said that his friend and the friend's sister had a similar situation and they both got a working BB with no problem.
