Tipping?

Ok I know we have discussed this before but my brain is mush right now and TK doesn't make it super easy to seach.
The restaurant charges a service/gratuity charge of 20%. Do we still tip our wait staff?
What about the vendors that we use and are paying individually.  Like the officiant and the hair/makeup stylists?
FH is really big on tipping if we like someone but I would like to stick to our budget. Any feedback would be great.

I know this is tough.... if they already charge an automatic 20% then now, you do not have to tip more, it would be up to you if you felt like the service was worth more. 20% is already very nice. As far as for individual vendors... I heard that owners of companies do not expect tips as the money already goes directly to them... but I know others think differently about that. Also from what I've heard if Officiant's do not expect a tip. I will be giving a small tip to my hair and make up lady even though she owns company because she has been very helpful already. I'll also be tipping my photorgprahers assistant becasue she has answered about 200 questions from me and has gone above and beyond :)

I always wonder how much of the 20% or any percentage tacked on gratuity really goes to the server?

I have worked for a cater service before and it gets split amongst those who served you. If its at a restarant, it goes all to the server normally.

We tipped everyone at least a little something extra:  officiant, hair/make-up, photographer, videographer, chef.  Having said that we felt all of their services were wonderful and that they all went over and beyond.  If 20% was included I woud probably slide the servers a little extra if they gave really good service.

Girls, do you think you should tip your photographer and videographer at the ceremony or send them the tip after you get the product..... Pictures and video? I'm not sure about this.... I kind of feel like I want to see the pictures and video and then tip depending how great they are.....I think I'd be annoyed if I tipped really well and then I didn't get pics for months!! A I being dumb? Lol

we asked our WC about this and transportation and hair and make-up was expected.  Caterer gratuity to servers/staff was included in service charge.  All other vendors was at our discretion based on the service provided.   We gave her all of our tip envelopes with their names on it to distribute for us and had our Best Man give our WC her envelope on the wedding day.

I have never been tipped for photography and our wedding photographer has been shooting since 2001 and was tipped for the first time recently. Frankly I think it makes sense. We put in hours of time on our feet and its so incredibly hard on our bodies, believe it or not. Plus the hours and hours that go into editing after the fact... if anyone earns a tip it's the photographer.

We have decided that my Dad or FH will have some cash to give to the servers should they go above and beyond in service. The reason for the cash is that we already have a card on file to cover the food and open bar charges.
The hair/make up stylists I will have envelopes with their balance enclosed in cash and I am going to leave them open to add a little if warranted. Or just slip a little more to them and mention that it is a tip?
Our photographer is flying over with us and we have paid for everything for him and his wife, so we don't really feel that tipping him is necessary but I agree Allison that if our pictures are amazing then we may send them a gift card with a thank you. We may just do that anyway.
Destiny, we did the same with my daughters wedding because there were so many vendors. FH went around towards the end and gave each one their envelopes. Funny the caterer was really surprised.
