I am the MOH for my sister's wedding that we're planning from out of town so I wanted to see if this would be the proper board for the Asheville area? Thanks in advanced!

Yep.  There aren't a ton of Asheville people, but feel free to jump in!

I'm an Asheville person!
I might not be much help though since I'm getting married near Charlotte

Ok good! Glad I'm in the right place! Do any of you, being familiar with the Asheville area, know of any nice reception venues?
My siser's dream is to get married at Bilmore but she's finding out it costs an arm, leg, and first born child for even just a few guests. So I'm doing the research for her to see if we can have the ceremony there (and pictures) and then the dinner somewhere else not so pricey, to save money. It's at least $150 a head with a hefty food and beverage minimum!

I had a cousin who was going to get married at Biltmore, but it was way too expensive. I used to live outside of Asheville. Here are some venues you could look at (depending on what kind of style she is going for):

The Venue
Century Room on the Park
Crest Center & Pavilion
Hidden River Events
Claxton Farm
Celine & Co: On Broadway
Sleepy Hollow Inn
Grand Bohemian Hotel
Grove Park Inn

If you are willing to go a little bit outside of Asheville, you could try:
Lake Lure Inn & Spa
Castle Ladyhawke
Greystone Inn & Lake Toxaway CC
Mountain Magnolia Inn

I went to a luncheon at The Venue. Very different vibe than Biltmore, more Art Deco/hip. It was beautiful. It was before my wedding &i had thought if Raleigh had a place like it, I would have been all over it. We had an Italian buffet lunch. Food and service both were good.

The Grove Park is wonderful, too, but I suspect it's comparable in price to Biltmore.

Good luck!

I agree, and especially about the Grove Park. I just thought I'd list all the places I could think of just in case!

Unfortunately, you can't have formal pictures taken by the house unless you have the ceremony by the house. And you can't have a ceremony by the house unless you have the entire event somewhere on the Biltmore grounds. If she's dead set on having her ceremony at Biltmore, they offer several ceremony-only locations, but they won't be anywhere near the main house.

I was in a wedding years ago at the Biltmore Inn. They had the ceremony there and had their reception at the DoubleTree by Hilton. There's a few balconies & verandas that might give them the opportunity to have wedding photos taken with the house in the distance. It's only a couple of blocks from the entrance to Biltmore Estate; it used to be the site of the old Biltmore Dairy.

I am getting married at the Biltmore Estate in June, it's not cheap but you get a lot for the money.  Once I factored in the full sit-down meal, cake, service, linens, and open bar, it was iactually comparable to similiar venues here in Ohio.  But this is my 2nd marriage, so I wanted to just pay someone else to do everything this time.  The photography and flowers were pretty steep, I thought.

This is actually not correct.  I've confirmed several times with the Biltmore Coordinator; if you get married anywhere at the Estate, you can take pictures anywhere on the property (except inside the house)  If a wedding is planned for the lawn, you have to have pictures in front of the Main house completed before 5pm.

I would suggest having the reception somewhere like The Ballroom. Its pretty and spacious, and very close to Biltmore. Also, I know some vendors who would work well if you havent found people. Please look at Rachel Archer Photography or Sarajane Case Photography, also Mary Willis is a great MUA if you need one!
