Looking for a Southern Style Venue

I'm looking for a venue to hold our wedding and reception in. I want a white southern style home where I can have an antebellum theme wedding. I would like to be able to rent the home for the weekend so my family can stay in the home and get the entire feel for the southern homes. However, we do have a budget so it needs to be reasonable. I found a plantation home that we LOVE LOVE LOVE but I've had some controversial comments made about having an interracial marriage in a plantation home. Not sure what to do.

Hey! I just looked at your profile- are you doing a Sunday wedding? It may become a bit more challenging, because I think a lot of places will require you to rent the entire weekend.

What part of NC? You could look at the Vanlandingham Estate or Morehead Inn, both in Charlotte. They don't have a ton of lodging, so it will depend on the size of your family and wedding.

As for the plantation home idea, I say go for whatever you and hubby want to do! It is your big day, and those who are close to you and truly care, will support you in whatever you do. My FMIL has been a bit difficult and over-inserted (or tried to) her opinion during planning. I continue to tell myself that from the time I walk down the aisle, to the time we leave the reception, is a span of 5 hours- she can moan and groan all she wants, but we're family, and when this is all over, she'll see how immature her comments are :) good luck! let us know what you decided!

I had my wedding at Bellamy Mansion in Wilmington, NC which is an antebellum style home. Here's their website - http://bellamymansion.org

You can't rent out the house for the weekend, though, because it is a working museum. Essentially, you get the mansion on your wedding day from about 3:30 (for set up) till 11. So you can pretty much have an evening wedding (mine started at 7pm). On a Sunday the cost I believe is $2500. Weeknights (Mon-Thur) are quite a bit cheaper.

I absolutely loved it & Braxton, the rental coordinator, is probably the nicest guy ever. He actually got married at Bellamy himself. He's very accomadating & really easy to work with. If you are interested, be sure to visit. Tell them you are interested in renting the house for a wedding & you'll get a free tour. :)

Good luck finding what you want. And about having an interracial marriage at a plantation - as long as it doesn't bother the two of you, don't worry about it. I think looking for an antebellum style home without any attachments to the history of slavery is going to be hard - since it's around the exact time frame of the pre-Civil War, etc. So.... Just do what makes the two of you happy.

There are a lot of options in the Raleigh area that might fit with your ideas, some of them have lodging available, some don't. I just suggest checking these out and seeing if they fit your budget or tastes.

I think Celebrity Dairy lets you rent out their Inn in the wedding package, for the whole weekend. It's a working goat farm too, a very cool place. I believe it is right outside Siler City.

Victorian Crow's Next in Monroe is a huge white house but I don't think you can stay there.  Same thing with Manor House in Waxhaw.  Duke Mansion is ideal if you can afford the hefty price tag.

This place just opened somewhere near the Greensboro area -- Willow Oaks Plantation.  http://willowoaksplantation.com/wedding_gallery.html

It looksl ike depending on the package, they have up to 4 rooms in "the Lodge" you can use overnight?  I haven't been out there, and again, they just opened so I don't know if you'll get many reviews of them.  But our photographer took all the pictures on the site and said it was gorgeous out there!

Another venue that does rent rooms is the Rose Hill Conference Center. One hour east of Raleigh in Nashville, NC.  It's gorgeous.  http://www.rosehillconferencecenter.com/events.asp

The neat thing about this place is it has a huge ballroom in addition to the home.  It also has a gazebo area by a pond if you wish to get married outside.

<div>You can't rent rooms at Highgrove, but they DO have a beautiful bed and breakfast next door where they also do weddings and you can rent the rooms out there for a night or the weekend.</div><div>
</div><div>Also, I'm using the Preston Woodall House which I think Meredith already mentioned. We got 12 rooms there for the weekend in our package (we got it during a special where the packages were 1/2 off and also they've just changed the packages around so I'm not sure what the prices are like now). I will say that the staff so far has been really awesome and I would highly recommend them, though they aren't as much of a white antebellum house like I think you have in mind. More victorian. </div>
