Does anyone know where to get a nice cake stand for a decent price? I don't really want to rent one because we haven't seen anything we like enough... they're always the silver stands (which are pretty, but people always seem use them, and at this point, I see why... they may be our only option!). We wouldn't mind renting if there was one we liked. Not a fan of the toss out ones either. But our cake baker said we needed about 18 inches minimum, and she recommended Sarah's stands, which are fine, but sooo expensive! I'd rather buy a crystal stand for that price. I don't think we want to go over $120-ish if we're going to buy the stand. I also don't remember the weight she said it needs to hold, but some of these cakes get really heavy. We'll probably have at least 3 teirs, possibly up to 5, so it's got to be a sturdy stand. I've checked Macy's and other places that sell those types of things, but I'm not so sure about the weight those things can hold, and none seem to be nearly big enough in diameter. Where did you guys get your stands? Thanks!

I probably won't get one because they are a large expense that I don't know how worth it, it will be. I know that another knotties dad crafted one if that is an option, or find a baker who rents them.

I've been thinking about getting one from efavormart.com they have a silver 18 inch one for $90-- it's good for me though because I have a way to reuse it.
It's kinda weird your baker wouldn't have them. Most do.
Good luck!

I found a few on amazon that are nice. My baker does have a few, but they weren't my favorite, and since I do love baking and entertaining I'm sure I'd make use of a cake stand that I love. It's kind of like how you said, if you have a use for it, it can make sense to buy one. I'll keep looking, but if anyone else knows a good place to look, please keep me posted!

What if you made one? Get a large mirror ( the size you need) and pop it on some glass votive holders or some small square vases with decorations in them like submerged flowers or LED tea lights?

I'm making ours, so far I've spent just over $75 for the beads and plexiglass. I'm hoping to be able to borrow the LED lights from my mom, otherwise I'll have to buy those as well. Here's my inspiration picture, hopefully mine turns out this awesome too!

We made ours.  My dad works at a glass factory so he brought home a frosted glass cylinder and we bought a round piece of glass for the top and frosted it ourselves.  We then put LED lights inside it so it had a little glow to it (which doesn't show up in the pictures).  It worked really well!

If you are only using it once, I found a store on ebay that sells aluminum covered ones that are made to look like the silver plated cake stands. They were selling them for $26....very inexpensive and even if they are cheaply made and the aluminum would chip with time, if you are only going to use it once it will do the trick!

I bought a vintage milk glass one for about $40 but it was smaller than what you're looking for. I don't know if you can find one that big at an antique store/estate sale but it's worth a shot.

we made ours with 4 candy dishes from Dollar tree, 4 Blue lights for .89 cents each, and one piece of glass, 20 x 20 inches and 1/4 inch thick. Had 5 tier square cake on it. Glass was $10.00 from a glass repair shop and that included them sanding the corners and edges down.So for approx $18.00 dollars had a very pretty cake stand. I gave it to my cake maker for future use becaus she loved it so much.
