On-Site Hairstylist vs Going to Salon
Hey Columbus brides and grooms. Chat here about the best tips, Knottie GTGs, and wedding planning in your area.
I'm trying to decide which to go with? We will all be staying/getting dressed at the Hampton Inn downtown (unless the new Hilton is open by then- fingers crossed!), and Melissa Roshan is coming to do

I'm trying to decide which to go with? We will all be staying/getting dressed at the Hampton Inn downtown (unless the new Hilton is open by then- fingers crossed!), and Melissa Roshan is coming to do makeup.
My options are (1) Have an on-site hairstylist come to the hotel- Both Shannon Goode and Jennifer King are available (what would I do without suggestions from this board? haha) (2) Go to Max the Salon in the Short North- It is one block from the hotel and is completely unbooked for that morning, so we would be able to walk and we would all get appointments close together. Max is also where I go for my hair anyway, so I would have my usual hairstylist, and I'm not concerned with everyone having similar hairstyles.
My only concern is there will be at least 8 of us needing our hair done, and I feel as though that may take forever for one hairstylist at the hotel, as opposed to multiple stylists at Max? Price-wise, either way it will be around the same cost for my maids, so thats not really an issue.
Any suggestions or advice? Does it really take that long for 8 people to get their hair done? Is on-site just easier? Thanks so much!

For my wedding, we had ours done at the hotel. I stayed at the hotel Friday night too, which made it really nice to not have to get up and go anywhere in the morning and to already be at the hotel to get dressed once we were done getting ready. We had 9 people total getting their hair done, but we had 3 girls doing hair. It took about 2 and a half hours. With 8 girls, I would be a little worried about how long it might take if there is only one person doing hair. I actually looked in to using Shannon, but like you, was worried about the time. I ended up using Penzones, because they can send multiple people.

I think I would go to the salon in your case UNLESS there are multiple stylists available.

We opted to go to the salon for hair and have makeup come to us. I also used Max the Salon (where my regular stylist at the time was) and MelissaRoshan. We booked the salon from 9-11 (for 6 people), the MelissaRoshan met us at our ceremony site at 11:30 and stayed until everyone was done. We had a 2pm ceremony, so we had to start everything early and i wanted to be sure we had enought time to get everyone ready.

I had Jennifer King come to the hotel as well as my makeup person. She did my hair, 3 BMs, flower girl and my mother's hair in less than 3 hours. They gave us the option for others to eat and have a drink while one was getting their hair done plus help me wrap up a few last minute items. I also enjoyed not having to worry about organizing travel to/from the hotel and salon.

We only had 1 hair-stylist and she came to the house and did 7 people and she was so quick! I think this is a great option because I didn't really want to go anywhere, plus the salon was going to have other customers in it during the day and it was much more comfortable to relax at home with the girls and mothers and had subway at the house and could relax. I highly recommend on-site where you are getting ready.
