Bridal Shower?
Hi Dallas-Fort Worth brides and grooms. Chat here about the best tips, Knottie GTGs, and wedding planning in your area.
Alright so this topic has come up many of times and I don't know how to answer it. What's the point of having a bridal shower? Who's invited? When do you have one? TIA

The point is to get presents!  (I think. I can't think of another good reason to have one)
You can do a couples shower or a ladies shower, but anyone who is invited to the shower has to be invited to the wedding.

Usually you have them at about 2-3 months out. I believe.

Traditionally, a bridal shower is thrown by a friend or family member (although I think etiquette says your mom shouldn't host) to "shower" the bride with gifts.

You don't have to have one if you don't want.  Mine was thrown the same day as my bachelorette party, so a few weeks before my wedding, because many of the girls invited to both were traveling from out of town and we didn't want to force people to make two trips or miss out on one or the other.

We are having ours 2 months out and 3 weeks out. We had to have an Arkansas one and a DFW one.

I'd say it's also another excuse to have a party! or just to have friends get together.
I'll be out in Arizona next weekend to visit family and they're going to have a shower for me while I'm there (hosted by my sister and mom...btw) and then my friends out in Texas will do one a month or so before the wedding.

Ditto to what everyone else said. I only wanted one so we had one big one a little less than two months out.

It was great time and loved having all the girls together, but miserable at the same time because I HATE to open gifts in front of people!
