I am having my ceremony in a plain conference style room and I would love some inexpensive ideas on what to put up front.

I have considered getting the draping as a backdrop. Then adding 2 levels of columns with fabric connecting them, but I am really not sure what to do.

Suggestions? Websites welcome. :)

Draping is expensive... like REALLY expensive!

Word.  However, I do have a decorator we use for the prom and she can tell you if you really want to know.  Texas Aire Designs.  http://www.airedesignsoftexas.com/
I know it looks like a lot of balloons but that's how she got her start.  She has branched out into all sorts of decor.

Maybe colored background lighting... not sure if it's less expensive. Maybe the other girls know how much it cost?

The DJ we're using for this year's prom charges $35 a "pot".

What venue are you using--maybe someone here that has or is using it could give you some ideas?

I don't know much about decor but it seems like adding columns and draping would not be very cost effective.

I know that columns through TAD would be more than 20ish uplighting pots.

Texas Star GOlf Course, not really one of those venues everyone uses.

I have to add something though because the room is bare. I found column rentals for for $12 each. Not bad. The pipe and draping was only $30 per 10 ft section and I only need 3. But beyond THAT, not sure what to do.

I wasn't planning on doing aisle decorations, the aisle is too narrow. Trying to squeeze people into the room and my dress is ball gown style.

So you're not getting married outside I take it?  Does the venue come with a planner that could help you?

Yeah I was looking at the website but I am so un-creative it's pathetic.

Is it at night?  Do you like candles?  I know of a Knottie that used a candle wall and it was really pretty. She just had petals down the aisle on both sides and the candle wall.

Yea me too, I am an accountant, ya know!

No, we are doing mid afternoon to save $.

OF course, I love candles!!

I do own a black candle screen, I could use that with all the other stuff.

I don't know what kind of feel you're going for, but we rented curly willow branches from our florist for around $150. It was outdoor, but it might look nice in your venue.

You could also do standing candelabras at the start of the aisle, behind the chairs. That way they aren't actually in the aisle but they do give you some decorations.

Seeing the room pictures now I really think lighting could set the mood!

Well, it has some nice windows available, which means there should be some good nature views.  What you could do is put the pillars on each side of one of the windows, and make that your backdrop.  Or, if possible, several pillars, each of different heights, with candles on top of them?  I don't know where you're placing your alter, so I don't know if that would work or not!
