If you do the sheet cake, chances are the guests will not know. The staff  *Should* wheel the  "show" cale to the back of the kitchen and then set up/pass out the cut sheet cake. Even if they do know, I don't think it's cheesy at all.

I think that's fine.

thanks for the ideas...i like the idea of them taking the fancy cake in back and then cutting the sheet cake.

Another idea is to see if your baker will do false tiers.  We're doing that, with the bottom 2 tiers being fake, and then having sheet cake in the back.  It was much more economical that way, but I could still have the look of the big cake I wanted!  Just an idea to maybe explore.

This is very common now a days, since it is so much cheeper. No one will think this is cheesy. Your guests will just be excited to eat cake!

I do cakes for weddings and to be honest from my point of view, you can use the sheets cakes and use the tiered cake for couple cutting pics. I do 2-layer sheet cakes so they are just as delicious as the tiered cake. You can set them out with the tiered cake on display if the sheet cakes are decorated pretty as well.

Cost wise it is a little cheaper b/c I charge a base rate for the sheet cakes. I'm not sure what other bakers do. I do make the sheet cakes coordinate with the tiered cake.

Its your wedding! You do what YOU want. Find a baker that will make the whole look work for you.
