How much is too much???

I keep falling in love with bridesmaids dresses that I think are too expensive. Each one of them is having to buy a flight and pay for a place to stay when they come to our wedding. I don't want to ask them to spend a fortune, so how much is too much? The set of dresses that I LOVE are 150$ and I was hoping to have them spend somewhere between 50-75$. Should I offer to put in money for the girls that feel it's too much. My worry is that they won't say it's too much when really, it is. I've been searching for months for dresses that are each different, yet somewhat alike, and not the same colors. So, I'm a little picky on the dresses and what I want just seems to be too expensive. Advice?

Re: How much is too much???

  • 1. Ask each bridesmaid privately what her budget is, before you suggest anything in particular. The lowest number is your dress budget.
    2. If you're going to go over that budget, you have to make up the difference.

My bridesmaids' dresses were $30 each. The cost came out of the general wedding budget.
  • You should ask your BMs how much is too much for them.  Most dresses I have seen are in the $150 range, so it is pretty standard.  If you want these dresses and your BMs say they are out of budget, you could pay for them yourself.  All of my BMs are traveling, so I paid for the dresses, it was just what felt right for me and my group.

  • honey, It's YOUR big day! if the bridesmaids want to be totally rude by not paying for your dream dresses, its their problem, not yours!

</div><div>Such a troll.  You also posted about your MOH wanting to buy you a wedding gift and you want her to buy your gown.  Isn't it past your bedtime, little girl?

  • Keep in mind that your bridesmaids will most likely have to pay for alterations as well, and those can be a little expensive.  Shoes also add up (though, if you require a specific color or style of shoe that they don't already own, you should be paying for them).

Have you looked into pre-ownded bridesmaid dresses?

  • Having been a bridesmaid keeping down costs is SO kind. I'm sure they love you and will pay but if you give them some freedom like only specifying a color pallette, or generic shoe color, then they can actually re-wear some of it.

What is the pic you posted? Where are those dresses. I must have one for my very own!!! Just...for life.
  • They're from ETSY and I love them too!

I'd ask each of them (call, so you can have a conversation) to let you know their preferred price range.  Be sure to let them know you cannot make any promises about the final price but will do your best.  Good luck!
