what's better... a band that performs live and can really get into the music or a DJ that can play anything/any song?

HELP!

I always prefer a DJ just because they can do any type of music, and aren't as limited as a band is.  I have been to many weddings where there has been a great band, and everyone had a great time.  But I think we're going to go with a DJ just because the variety of music they can play.  I think its the best way to keep all the different age ranges at the wedding happy.

I prefer DJs for the same reason as PPs. Also, they tend to be cheaper.

For recs in your area, I would post a question on your local board. Look in the blue column on the left under "Local Wedding Boards."

I prefer a band over a DJ. My two splurges at my wedding are a band and lots of alcohol. A band has SO much more energy, and they do have to take breaks, and during that time you can play whatever music you like.
When I look back at weddings I have been to, the ones that I remember as being REALLY FUN just heppen to be the weddings with bands.

As cwaggoner07 suggested, you can get the energy of a live band with the versatility of a DJ by working out before hand a song list of what you would like to play during band breaks if they take any or for specific dances if you want to dance to a specific version of a song.

As a performer, I am biased, but if you do go with a DJ, I recommend going to one of their events to see how they mix their songs because for similar money, you can often rent or buy the same equipment a DJ uses and play music from a computer, which many DJ's do.  However, there are many DJ's who do an excellent job mixing their music and have that entertainment factor as well.
