I've been searching all over the web for ideas for a father-daughter dance song. I had originally wanted I Loved Her First, but I feel weird using the song because my cousin used it for her father-daughter dance with my uncle. I want something special to dance to with my dad because I am his first born (we almost have the same birthday--he said he wanted to be a dad before he turned 30 and I came two hours shy of his 30th birthday..he tells me I'm the best birthday gift he ever got !!) I haven't found a song that has given me that wow feeling yet. Like that feeling you get when you find THE dress and you know you have to have it right then and there...any ideas for songs, (especially from anyone who is a first born like myself....what song did you find special with your dad???) thanks all!!

I am using Darius Rucker- It won't be like this for long. Not my favorite, but I let my dad pick, and he said it was perfect. Here's some songs I suggested to him though:

Harry Connick Jr- wink and a smile
Faith Hill- There you'll be

We did "Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon. I didn't want something super "mushy" because that's not the kind of people we are. Plus he likes Paul Simon PLUS the words are still sweet if you listen to them and I loved the melody.

I'm dying to find a song that is slow enough to dance to, not too long, and not too mushy and no weird lyrics that could be taken the wrong way. Currently in the lead is Lullaby by Billy Joel, but not sure. I find this to be one of the most difficult decisions so far in wedding planning because I think both my dad and I are not super close and he's a shy dancer.

I was considering "Take Good Care of My Baby" by Bobby Vee (I love 50's-60's music) or Goodnight Irene (I hadn't chosen a version yet) because he used to sing that song to my siblings and me when we were little.

Daughter by Loudon Wainwright is a great song!

I picked mine when I was 15 too...it's called "More I Cannot Wish You" from the 1993 recording of Guys and Dolls. It's v. short, only 2 minutes and change, and really sweet, but not too sappy or weird. And a very simple song, easy to dance to. A sample lyric:

Music I can wish you
Merry music while you're young
And wisdom when your hair has turned to gray
But more I cannot wish you
Than to wish you find your love
Your own true love this day

With a sheep's eye and a licorice tooth
And the strong arms to carry you away
