My fiance and I are having a hard time picking a first dance song for ourselves. We both like alternative folk type music (think Mumford and Sons). I came across this song by the Avett Brothers called "Living of Love." Thoughts? Does it sound like it could be a first dance song?

My other idea was Dave Matthews Band "you and me" but that song might have too fast of a beat for a first dance.

I would appreciate any input. The songs are easily accessible from youtube.

Hey music twin! FI and I have the exact same taste of music as you and have been having a really hard time finding something that suits us. I keep hoping Mumford will come out with a true love song (that does not talk about nooses hahah).

I like Living of Love and think it could work. As long as you both love it, then I say go for it.

The closest we've found so far is Someone Like You by Van Morrison.

I know! I was really hoping I'd be able to find some underground song from Mumford and Sons that actually was a love song! But no such luck! Let's keep our fingers crossed for a surprise new album sometime soon (and by soon I need it before the summer! haha)

Ooohh!!! You just reminded me of something!!!!

They DO have a secret album with love songs under a different band name ("The Wedding Band") :P An EP was given out at a concert in the UK and then I tracked down the songs on Youtube. They still didn't have any that really felt "right" for us, but I hope one works for you!

Bon Iver has similar music to Mumford and Sons, but it is equally manic in terms of lyrics. I created a Mumford and Sons Pandora station, and it has given us a LOT of good ideas. Ray Lamontagne is in the running, too.

Hey! I actually looove "you and me" and it is certainly not to fast! have you started taking dance classes yet? The teachers will always help you to pick the right dance to the song....so make a list of songs you like and take it to a dance teacher! they will help you! if you dont have any teacher yet let me know! I have a married dance couple who helped me and my husband with our first dance :)
