uncle as DJ

Hi to all. I'm new to this board.

I have an uncle who is a DJ. He's done all of my cousin's weddings, but they have all been close to where he lives, and I live 5 hours away.  He said he would DJ for our wedding this September.

What I'm wondering is for a good way to ask how much he would charge me for doing the wedding. I know he's done it for free at atleast one of my cousin's weddings, but I don't want to assume that he will for me, especially since I'm out of town.  No matter what he says I'm going to give him something more than what he asks for, but if he has a figure in mind, I'd like to know.  Any thoughts on how to broach the subject?

"Uncle DJ, we're planning our budget for the wedding, and to help us plan, we need to know your fee.  Can you let us know how much to budget?"

That gives him the option of saying "Oh, dear niece, it's my gift to you and your FI" or "My fee is $650.00."

Then you know whether to budget for his fee or for a lovely gift to thank him for his generosity.

FWIW:  I'm a church organist, and for friends, will donate my services.  But I always prefer being asked the question.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146

Ditto with the pp. Just ask it definitely cannot hurt!!

My Uncle is a DJ too and has done the same--so I am sure you will be good money wise in that department!!
