Hello Everyone,

I'm starting to plan my reception! So Excited!!!!

I'm sort of scared about how I should go about looking for a DJ. What were the most important things to you when you booked yours?

Lots of online info?
How much information did they give you during your first call?
Meeting Prior to signing them?

Help?!?!?!?!

I would make sure they have insurance. Also meet them to get a feel for their personality. See how much they talk during the wedding (I didn't want a "talker"). What types of music they normaly play. How much an extra hour (or half hour) is the day of in case you want to keep the party going. If there's an emergency do they have someone who can take their place at the wedding? Lights? What type of sound system do they use (FI had to take this one lol)? How do they store their music? If it's on a cd it may be crap quality but if it's electronic, it's good to have cds as a back up.

ETA: I almost forgot about a microphone. If you'll need one, you'll want to ask. And it's better if it's cordless. =)

ETA (part deux): Oh, I didn't mention the technicals. I refused to meet with anyone who wouldn't at least give me a ball park price. I had a very strict budget and didn't want to waste time (FI both work full time and opposite schedules) meeting to find out they were way too expensive. When I did meet, these were the things I paid attention to. In the long run, I asked a friend who DJs on the side and he got me a deal with his company. Since he'll be the one doing the DJing (I trust him), I'm just dealing with his boss online and going over the technicals, worksheets (they usually give you these to find out what kind of songs and what specific songs for dances, cake cutting, etc).
