Hello ladies! I just met with our flower lady a friend through my bridesmaid so I thankfully will be getting a discount on our flowers. BUT I had all intentions on getting real flowers for our wedding, but once I met with her she kinda talked me into going with artificial flowers because they will last longer on the big day. I want white and pink lillys and roses and a few other fillers. My bridesmaids will have same bouquet but alot smaller. We would start taking pictures around 1:00pm and our wedding is at 5:00pm so they would be out of water pretty much all day. Do you think they would last? Have/are you going with artificial flowers? why? What would you suggest since I want the lillys real or artficial? TIA!

I'm sorry but no experienced florist will suggest artificial flowers because they will "last longer". If you are using an experienced florists, fresh flowers will last the entire day looking beautiful.

Depending on how a bouquet is made (hand tied vs arranged in a bouquet holder) you can easily supply water to keep the flower fresh. I doubt you will be taking pictures for the entire 4 hours before your ceremony. If the bouquets are handtied then just place the stems into a small amount of water, if they are arranged in a bouquet holder then no additional water is needed because the oasis foam is already supplying the water.

IMO, artifical flowers do not look real, because they aren't. I would suggest looking at other florists in your area and see what prices they will quote you. I am just getting a bad feeling about the lady you are dealing with right now...she sounds lazy and unexperienced and that is why she is suggesting artificial.

I DIY'ed my own real flowers and they looked great all day. This florist seems whacko to me.

I had flowers that some florists will say "wilt easily" and therefore don't suggest using them but mine lasted all day out of water, in heat and humidity (and still looked like new days later). I would never go with artificial over real flowers.

All the weddings I have gone to have had real flowers and they looked just as beautiful from the ceremony to the reception. I think that it is silly for a florist to talk you into artificial flowers when you had all intentions of having real flowers. Any florist who is good at what they do will have the tools and knowledge to keep real flowers looking fresh all day. I would go with what you originally wanted.. It's your day.. do what makes YOU and your fiance happy especially not what makes your vendors happy! :)

I am a florist, and I would NEVER talk anyone out of real flowers. They are so much more elegant and beautiful. I always deliver flowers in a small cylinder vase that is easy to transport so they can be placed into water when not being used. Most weddings start with photos around 1pm with ceremony at 5pm and I have never had issues with real flowers lasting that length of time.

Something to keep in mind is that alhtough you may know the florist, she is still providing a service, I wouldn't assume there is a discount unless you speak with her about it.

I definitely understand your concern! You want to make sure your arrangements are still looking beautiful at the end of your big day, and not wilted and de-petaled.

i'm going with artificial and have no doubts about it. allergies, cost, and wanting to DIY them (and have TIME to do it without having to rush the day before) are a few of my reasons, along with i'm simply clumsy and know that my bouquet will be dropped a few times and live flowers couldn't take that abuse. but then again, the only flowers will be in bouquets and boutineers... no floral centerpieces, so they will all be viewed from a distance mostly.
