His rank doesn't go on anywhere because he's enlisted.

It's just

Hoonah Grace
to
Mark Smith
United States Marine Corps
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

I wouldn't put it on the save-the-dates, and to be honest I don't think we're putting it on the invitations (his choice).  Other ladies will be able to help more with specific etiquette info.  I know it's dependent on rank, but I don't know the details.  Sorry!  And welcome!

Save the dates are an informal way of informing your guests to save the date and prepare for your invitation in the future.  It should just read:

Honorah Grace
to
Mike Smith

02-02-13

When you send out the invitations, you can add the Marine Corps under his name.  As Stan mentioned, he's enlisted.  The rank doesn't go on the invite.

Does the same go for veterans? Honorably discharged?

We did not really do a save the date but more of an information card for our out of state guest that needed hotel information and we did not use H's rank.  I think that is to formal for a save the date.  However, I don't know full etiquette.  I am not sure about the veteran part.

There's no change in the rule for veterans. Retired officers generally retain their rank however.

Commissioned officers (generals, colonels, etc.), are addressed by rank, whether retired or active duty.

Enlisted officers and people with educational doctorates (as opposed to medical) are not addressed with a title.
