In a book that I am reading, the author spoke about how she felt after seeing some of the beautiful paintings in Europe. She became more accepting of different body types- and it was terribly eye opening for her.

So I've been looking at some Baroque Era pieces...and some of them have really been striking my fancy. And yes- some of them even make me feel a bit more beautiful myself.

These are some of my favorite from Peter Paul Rubens:

The Union of Water and Air

The Descent from the Cross (a portion) (You have to enlarge this one to get the full effect).

Sine Cerere et Baccho friget Venus:

I love Deborah Barlow paintings.  I have two in my house.  I just love abstract art in general.

Oh- Also...Andew and I haven't hung any art in our house...and we don't have enough big pieces- so I'm also interested in your art interests so I can possibly purchase some. ;)

Shoes- I'm not a huge fan of abstract art...but I do believe in color therapy....so I'm down with some of her pieces. I think I could even paint like that! ;)

Do you enjoy art? I love it. BF and I have had a membership to the museum in Atlanta for 2 years now.

What type of art? I'm actually partial to more clasical things like what you posted. But I am gaining a serious appreciation for modern art. the High in Atlanta is a modern art museum and it's wonderful. BF and I recently went and I loved this peice by Picasso.
I had the exact same thoughts about my body issues as you did.

I've never been super into art. I feel like I just don't get it. My parents have a friend who is an artist and I've always really enjoyed her work.  She did a sketch of me and my dad when I was a baby that really means a lot to me.

I'm more into photography and architecture than paintings. I may come back and post some pictures...

Ditto Beth & Swhite.  I look at something and say "oh, that's pretty" rather than be able to critique it and say how the use of the color red and the brush stroke indicated that the artist was passionate when they painted that, or that their use of the circle over the square indicates their wish for world peace...I just don't "get it" on that level.

I'm much more critical of photography and architecture though because I feel like I can relate better (especially since I was an architecture major in college).  It's more tangible to me in a way.

I really enjoy going to the art museum, but I haven't gone in forever. I am one of those people that could sit and stare at a picture for a really long time and all that. I just think it's fascinating. I don't know much about it though. I just enjoy it.

FI is also an artsy person, so we'll probably have some paintings hanging whenever we get our own place and won't be afraid to put holes in the walls.

I did it for two years in college (and had wanted to be an architect since I was 6), but then I worked at a couple architecture firms and I realized that it's not what I wanted to do for a career.  I felt like if I became an architect, I would grow to hate architecture, if that makes sense.  I love looking at and critiquing buildings, I love the creativitiy of it, but I didn't like the redlines, and drafting, and RFPs, and submittals, etc.  Plus I guess it worked out, I wouldn't have been a working architect right now anyways because the market here sucks giant donkey balls.

Same here. I already hate architecture just from school. I am totally fine doing something else. FI is more set on trying to make it work. Not necessarily straight up architecture, but at least something semi-related. What are you doing right now, if you don't mind? I can't seem to remember if you ever posted it.

I got my degree in Real Estate Development, it was kind of the same industry, which I liked, but a lot less focused so there were a lot more options.  However, because it's still the same industry, there still aren't any jobs.  I'm an office manager right now and really have no idea what the hell to do in the future, but I somehow doubt that I'll actually ever work with my degree....

That's where I'm at. I kind of feel like I've wasted 4 years of my life and hundreds of thousands of dollars. Oh well, hopefully something good can come out of it.

I can't discuss art intelligently in terms of composition or meaning.

But I love looking at paintings!

I like Boucher and Fragonard's elegance and sexiness:

I like Renoir's people and scenes. So lively and interesting. I can stare at these people all day:

And Corot's magical light!

I also enjoy the simplicity of watercolors. If I had art in my house, it would probably be watercolors. :)

My mom works at the art museum here (and has since I was 8) so I've pretty much always been exposed to that world. I love going to the art openings and I especially love walking through the exhibits with my mom. Since she handles most of the pieces and writes up labels she knows TONS of little details about each piece, it's amazing to listen to her discuss artwork, she really has a passion for it.

We (mom and I) both like to create art too. My living room is filled with works I've created and I'm so proud to have my own personal gallery in my house. I haven't painted since moving in with BF and I have a big oil painting I was working on that I need to finish.

The only art I really dislike is modern "shocking" art (like a photo of a bleeding slaughtered chicken). There was a lot of that in a recent show and I couldn't stand it. Some modern stuff is just too wacky for me. BUT I also love a lot of modern art.
