I'm setting up a meeting with him in the next week or so to talk about wedding photos and an engagement shoot.... he's got some nice photos on his website, just wondering if anyone here has worked with him or knows of anyone who has??
Opinions of his work are also welcome, as you may see/sense something that I"m missing, good OR bad. ;)

Some shots are clearer than others. He has a tendency to include a lot of background in the shots... is this the norm? I don't see many close-ups. Hmm... there's one close up of a little girl, but he's chopped off the right side of her cheek..... not a good sign.
And it looks like the lighting is off in several of these..... or maybe it's editing.... I"m not sure..... ?

I am coming from a point of view as a professional photographer, but I can give you my assessment. On the wedding portfolio, he only seems to show one (maybe two - hard to tell) ceremonies so the question you should be asking is "How many weddings has he shot?".
Regarding the composition that he leans towards, that is subjective and either you like it or you don't. It is possible that he takes plenty of close-ups and has decided not to display them in his portfolio. I do this all the time. I include photos that I think people will repsond to or that I find personally satisfying. During your meeting you should ask if you can see an entire wedding collection to see if that is the case.
