Hi,
I know the typical rule is "no veil" but I'm wondering if bending that rule would cause any rude chatter...
My wonderful fiancé mentioned that he'd love to see me in a bird cage veil; he thinks they're pretty. It's the one thing he hinted at as far as how I look that day so I'm finding it hard to ignore.
The wedding will be less than 30 people in attendance, I'll be wearing a vintage dress (a color, not white or beige), and it will be a civil ceremony followed by a dinner party.
Do you think I can get away with it?? I'm kind of a stickler for etiquette... I want to make him happy but also don't want to feel uncomfortable.
Thanks!
D

There is no "no veil" rule for second weddings.   If you want to wear one, you should do it!   I think birdcage veils are very cool, and it sounds like it would look perfect with your vintage dress.

A SW bride's Fi asked her to wear a blusher, because he wanted the experience of lifting the veil off her face.  I can't think of a better reason to wear one, than to please your Fi.  ~Donna

Even under the old rules, a bride could wear a veil in a second wedding, just not a blusher.  And these days, even that rule has gone.

Thanks ladies!
Someone just told me it was the blusher, not the whole veil that was against the rules.  I didn't realize it was so specific!  Also, since it's going to be so small, I can't really imagine any of our guests having an issue...  It's mostly immediate family only.

You should totally wear the veil if you want to! I can't keep up with the rules, so I'm just ignoring them.

Etiquette and tradition are two entirely different things.

Traditionally, first brides wore veils, because they symbolize youth and innocence.  That tradition has expired. You can wear a veil if you wish.

I don't think birdcage veils ever fell into the traditional "first wedding" category anyway, because they were quite common on hats in the days when those were in style.

I'd say if FH wants you to wear a veil and you want to then wear it. Who cares what people think.

none of those old rules apply anymore :)  just because this is your second wedding doesn't make it any less important or special.  in fact it is even more important.  and you should wear what you feel beautiful in.

I've read that it is not traditional to wear one, however it's your day.  I think doing it is a great idea. It's your day! I think the veil will be a great fit with what you are wearing.
