Wedding Invitations & Paper

Need HELP on invitation wording!!!

A few days ago we were married by a judge in chambers with out any of our friends and family. It was not a special event given it was paper work and signatures only. My parents are footing the bill for the big wedding this May so I would like the invitation to reflect my parents are hosting the event, but I am now married and my name will be legeally changed before we send out the invitations. How should I word this? The ceremony will not be in a church yet given my a minister.
After research I think I have a pretty good idea of what it could be, but I need to know what the most proper form of the wording...especially since it is a very formal event.
Thanks!!!

You would word it that you're having a celebration of your marriage, since you're already MARRIED.
Those not special papers you signed with a judge? Those made you married.

You're not having a wedding. You're having a party celbrating your marriage. You don't need a cermony, as you're already married.
  • hey, rox!

    what's new these days?
  • Hi Oot! I miss seeing you around. Just melting away in frickin Arizona, wishing for snow and prepping for Christmas. How are you? How's M and the kids?
  • Everyone in Boston is great :)  I got the oldest an electric piano for Christmas!  M is going to kill me!

I have another surgery on 1/19.  Sucks but what can I do?  Being half crippled sucks big time

</div><div>I've had friends that for various reasons have had a legal marriage before the wedding. One friend was marrying someone from out of the country and needed to be legally married within so many weeks of her FI moving to the US, so they had a legal wedding for immigration purposes and then planned a big wedding; the other friend was already engaged and planning her wedding, she was laid off and got legally married about 8 weeks before her wedding so that she could have medical insurance through her FI. In both of these situations, names were not changed after the legal aspect, wedding rings were not worn,  and they only told a few SELECT people (parents). </div><div>
</div><div>In your case, if the legal proceeding was just a formality for some bigger reason, why did you go about changing your name? If you are already openly married, another ceremony will just look silly. </div><div>

The truth behind a well laced dress
  • if you haven't already told the world and changed your name i would hold off, or just have a reception. And it isn't wierd (i don't think, as i have attended 2) to have the big formal reception complete with the white dress, and cake and everything, but not the ceremony. (It's also a little cheaper)
