Spring Break

Bill and I are trying to decide where to go for my Spring Break.  On the table so far are: NYC, Rome, Paris.  We're looking for something where we don't need our own transportation while we're there to help save some money.  So anyways, I am looking for some ideas.  While I would love Disney, sadly, that would be one of the worst times to go.  Same probably with Mexico.TIA!

Surprisingly, it would be one of the better times to go to Mexico. March is low season for them. The cruise is a good idea too! From the suggestions you recommended, I'd say Paris. You can get in and easily, as well as not feel rushed to see everything, like you would in Rome. GL!

I'd never be able to do Rome in a week, so for your choices I'd say Rome, especially since you just did NYC. It would actually be a good time to do Mexico. Cruise could be good too, although alot of people do that for spring break.

DEFINITELY ROME!  Best week of my life bar none.  You can see everything in a week if you have a pretty scheduled itinerary...we were there april 2-7.  2 days were sucked up by traveling, but we made a list of things we wanted to see and do and got everything done except the catacombs.  You can get to the majority of the sites by the 2 subway lines they have--they aren't very complicated to figure out--or by walking.

The reason why I would rule out Mexico is that a lot of our families go down there.  Same with during our Thanksgiving week and Winter Break.I've been to Rome twice but only for a total of three days.  It's like NYC and Paris:  you have to go a bunch to see it all.  We looked at DC too since I've never been but we could go to Sydney, Australia for a little more.  Bill doesn't want to spend as much time traveling as we would with that trip.

Definitely save Australia for a longer trip. Steven went to New Zealand and Sydney for 3 weeks and said it wasn't long enough. It's too much travel time. I'd still do Paris.

what about london/england?  any interest in that?  there is so much to do and see there.  the museums and such are free and you have the trains and tubes and buses to get around.  haven't been to paris, but i've heard it's overrated and dirty...

I was in Italy for a month in March and the only advice I have for you is that it was cold and about half of the days, maybe a little less, it was rainy.  If you are ok with that, then don't let that deter you.  It was great!  I was fortunate and was able to go all over Italy, including Rome.  With that said, I wish I would have gone when it was warmer, such as April/May before the summer crowds hit.

I've done both NYC and Paris on public transportation without a problem. Both would be awesome!Other places you might consider--Greece & Germany--their train system is amazing and English is spoken anyway. Bavaria is my favorite area of Europe

I don't really have a whole lot of interest in London due to it being so very expensive.  The only thing of economic value I found there was going to the theater.  We paid $34 (American) for pretty good tickets to Phantom.  PS:  What city with millions of people and tourists isn't going to have dirt?  Nevermind that it's been there in some way, shape or form for a couple of thousand years.  I feel like I need to explain a little more about Mexico:  I would love to go but my SB is about the same time as a lot of other districts in the Metroplex and colleges.  I know some places try to keep Spring Break partiers out but it's still a concern.  If I'm going there, I want it relaxing and not "Girls Gone Wild" and frat boys.  If you know of any really great all-inclusives that have been quiet during March, let me know!

What about Vegas? If you stay near the strip everything is within walking distance or you can get a cab to go to the other end of the strip if you didn't want to walk. Cruise to Alaska? I doubt a lot of spring breakers will be going there :p

Cruise to Alaska? I doubt a lot of spring breakers will be going there :p That would be fun.  However, I think they'll still be gripped in winter when we would be able to go.

Never been to any of these places, yet, but I would say Paris or Rome since you've been to NYC.Maine, Martha's Vineyard and Seattle come to mind.

I just came back from San Francisco and it was a blast.   You don't need a car at all.   The have the BART subway system from the airport to the city, you can take cable cars all over the city, and even ferry to Sausalito and Tiburon from Fisherman's Wharf.Better yet, if you want to relax, stay in Sausalito and take the ferry to the city on a day or two.  It was breathtaking!
