Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Poems

My officiant would like me to find a poem in the ceremony.

My fiance and I have been together for 10 years (H.S. sweethearts). I want to find a poem about being together for a while before the wedding day. Even though we are getting married, I don't feel that the wedding is uniting us because we have been together for so long. It's just a day that we want to celebrate our love with family and friends..make it official etc.

I just want a poem to reflect how long we've been together, road traveled to here that sort of thing?

Poem, lyrics, bible verses, etc. We are liberal so feel free to keep it modern or traditional.

Thanks!

Re: Poems

  • Here are a few basic quotes/poems that might give you some ideas & hopefully help a bit...

"People think they have to find their soul mate to have a good marriage.
You're not going to "find" your soul mate.
Anyone you meet already has soul mates - their mother. Their father. Their lifelong friends.
You get married, and after 20 years of loving, bearing and raising kids, meeting challenges - then you'll "create" your soul mate.
    - Diane Sollee"

"I will remember always that marriage, like life, is a journey - not a destination - and that its treasures are found not just at the end but all along the way."

"Take a couple of whole months, clean them thoroughly of all Bitterness, Rumours, and Jealousy; in other words,
make them as fresh and as clean as possible.
Now cut each month into 28, 30 or 31 different parts...
But don't make up the whole batch at once..
Instead prepare it One Day at a Time.

    Mix well each day:
    One part of Faith,
    One of Patience,
    One of Courage,
    One of Work,

    Add one part each of:
    Hope,
    Faithfulness,
    Generosity
    Kindness; Blend with:
    One part Prayer,
    One part Meditation
Good Deeds. Season the whole with:
    a dash of Good Spirit,
    a sprinkle of Fun,
    a pinch of Play
a cupful of Good Humour. Pour all of this into a Vessel Of Love,
    Cook thoroughly over Radiant Joy
    Garnish with Smiles
Serve with Quietness, Unselfishness and Cheerfulness
And you are bound to have a Happy Life."  - Anonymous

If you're a funny couple, you might like this one...

    [[From Calvin & Hobbes comic]]
Calvin: What's it like to fall in love? Hobbes: Well... say the object of your affection walks by... Calvin: Yeah? Hobbes: First, your heart falls into your stomach and splashes your innards. All the moisture makes you sweat profusely. This condensation shorts the circuits to your brain and you get all woozy. When your brain burns out altogether, your mouth disengages and you babble like a cretin until she leaves. Calvin: THAT'S LOVE?!? Hobbes: Medically speaking. Calvin: Heck, that happened to me once, but I figured it was cooties!
    Hope that helps!
