When I posed the question to my FI a month or two ago, he said "No" to writing our own vows. But now I think I'd really like for us to...I know I can't force him into anything...but I would

But now I think I'd really like for us to...I know I can't force him into anything...but I would really like to write mine and think it would be awkward if I did but he just did the traditional ones...opinions?

I want to write my own vows my fiance was very hesitant but once I explained why the fact that it is more personell (has more meaning, is more unique) instead of just repaeating words he agreed with the idea. He is really shy and i think scared to stand in front of all the ppl and forgot what he is going to say-or stumble through the words. I told him that he has almost 8 months to think about what he wants to say and he can have a notecard at the ceremony stored in his pocket or given to the best man to pull out when it is time to say the vows. Guests are going to understand that you are nervous and excited about the wedding so who carries if you stumble through a word or two. I think u should just talk to your fiance about why you want to write your own vows and find out why he is so against the idea. If he still will not budge then if you truly want to write your own and he wants to do traditional you always can it is you and your FI wedding after all but I hope you come to a compromise afterall that is what marriage is going to be.

My FI was a little on the fence about it also. We compromised and decided to write them together, so we wrote them but we're both saying the same thing. Once we did that, FI relaxed a little bit, and we decided to add some personalized stuff before that. So, we have our personal vows to each other, but then we both end with the same 4 lines. Does that make sense?
