What I envision:
Myself and my bridesmaids in cute, low-heel or flat strappy sandals. Mine are silver, theirs are gold. Our wedding colors are dark red and gold, their dresses will be red and accessories gold.

The problem:
1. Limited budget
2. Wide feet
3. Dress sandals and low heels apparently don't mix often
4. Lots of beautiful silver, or gold, but none where both colors available on the same shoe.

I found a BEAUTIFUL pair at DSW. If I just give my bridesmaids leeway to choose their own shoes (therefore not requiring me to buy them), they are well within my shoe budget. They even come in wide!

However, I'd really like us to all have the same style, even if it's not that strappy sandal I'd had in mind. The ceremony is outdoors, in early October, so maybe strappy sandals aren't the best fashion choice anyway?

i found a style of simple flats, available in both silver and gold and in every size you can imagine (including wide) for a price that I could buy them for everyone. They are very shiny and glittery (I love that about them ... not sure how others will feel), they are flats (none of my bridesmaids are good with heels, and I don't want them sinking), and they are SUPER comfy.

So at this point, here are my options:
Go with the strappy sandal for me, and just give everyone else their own choice of shoes. If I go this route, is it rude to declare a certain color requirement?

Go with the flats, which may not be to everyone's taste, and I'm afraid will end up looking bland. In my shoe budget I could buy them for everyone, and I can always add a shoe brooch or other decoration to jazz them up.

Or option C, a combination of both. I already have reception shoes, so I could just buy the gold flats as reception shoes for the bridesmaids and then have them get their own ceremony shoes.

Let's hear some opinions. I'm just really not sure what to do at this point! If you know of any other shoes that would fit my criteria and are under $35 a pair, please feel free to link me to them!

You are kinda overthinking this - no one is going to look at your WP and say "zomg the BMs shoes are so BORING!" - right?

It's not impolite to ask them to wear a certain color shoes, as long as it's not a strange color (i.e. you can say, wear brown, black or white - you can't say wear blaze orange).

In your situation I'd buy the flats for everyone.  It's a nice gesture (it's not their BM's gift though).

I asked my BM to wear silver looking back I should have said metallic as it really didn't matter if they were silver or gold and one girl already had silver and another had gold.

I think let them choose since you are saying they have feet issues, I do as well, one pair might be fine on one girl but might not work on another.  Shoes really don't matter that much.  Honestly it will be fine.

To put it in perspective for you - I let all my bridesmaids pick out their own shoes with the only restriction being no flip flops. Heels, flats, bling, no bling, anything was fair game. Nobody noticed, and if they noticed - nobody said anything. What would they say - "omg their shoes don't match?" Haha. The best part is they could all pick out what they could afford and be comfortable in. They wore knee length dresses too.

I was in another wedding where we wore floor length dresses and could pick out our own, silver shoes. This made me happy because I have wide feet and I usually prefer to wear somewhat of a heel when I'm dressed up, or else I don't feel 'dressed up'. The only time you saw our shoes was for one picture when we all lifted up our skirts to show our legs.

I probably am overthinking this, you're right. I've been looking for wedding photo inspiration and it seems like all of the ones I see where they show off the shoes they're always either matching, or complementary to each other.

I think what I'll do is this - I'm in love with those silver sandals. I want them. I think those are going to by my wedding shoes.

As for the BMs, I will ask if they'd rather choose their own, or if they like the gold ones. If they all like the gold ones, I'll buy them. If they'd rather choose their own, I'll just put the restriction of light colors and no flip flops. I was in a wedding several years ago where the bride just said she wanted everyone in silver, closed toe. I used my shoes from my high school prom and we all thought it was a very reasonable request.

Thanks for your help in realizing I don't need to freak out over shoes! :D

I feel your wide-footed pain, DSW is my savior for cute shoes.  I just spent $300 on four pairs.

I think if you give them a color, or a color/basic style (Silver sandals) you'll be fine.
