Snarky Brides

Tide?

How did you word your invitations?  Our wedding is going to be similar to yours, I think.  The pictures of your wedding are what I picture our wedding like.  I just can't figure out how to word it.  If you don't mind giving me some ideas, that would be great!

Re: Tide?

  • We used a standard wedding invite format for the invitations themselves.

    Together with their families,

    Tide
    and
    Mr. Tide

invite you to share in a celebration of life and love as they exchange marriage vows

Sunday, the twenty first of September
    two thousand and eight
    yada, yada, yada.

We didn't mention the handfasting element in the invitation, but this is what we wrote in the programs, to explain the ceremony to our guests:

Today's ceremony is a combination of many ancient and native traditions.  In recognition that our friends and family come from various walks of life, we would like to say that while not "traditional" by many standards, this ceremony is truly spiritual.  It celebrates our mutual love for the natural world, and allows us to celebrate our love for one another in a way that is both symbolic and meaningful.

Regardless of one's religion, it is easy to see that the spirit of love, and of god - whomever you may follow - is present here today.  In this program we have tried to explain some of the traditions and symbolism present in the ceremony.

Holy Crap. We survived the first year!
