So I am 25 days away from my wedding and money seems to be slipping through my fingertips. I am trying to stay on budget, but I don't want to be rude and not tip. Who do you think that I absolutely HAVE to tip? Caterer, coordinator, officiant, DJ, driver of horse & carriage, cake baker?

And how much do you tip? Is there a percentage?

I am not tipping cake delivery as the fee is $30 and I won't be there when it gets delivered.

DJ is a gift from a friend so after the wedding we are sending him a gift card to his favorite music store

We are tipping the photobooth people as they gave us a $800 grand prize package and its 4hrs of work not including set up and break down.

The coordinator we might tip after the fact if we get our deposit back...we already paid an extra $200 to have her to some minor set up and clean up

The officiant I will present a check to our ministry projects we do in the Spring/Summer as a thank you. He does not accept money himself.

Hair and make up already has an 18% gratuity...if I don't freak out and it's done with no stress I might add another 2% but its expensive to begin with.

Check and see if a service charge is included in any of your vendor pricings.

It depends on if the person working your wedding is the company owner or an employee. If it's the owner you don't need to tip since they own the company and you're already paying them. After you rule out those vendors check your other contracts to see if any tip is already added and go from there.

First, just so you know, my fiance and I are big believers in tipping so we have worked generous tips into our budget. We are also recommending the vendors who come through for us to all of our friends and giving positive feedback on their websites etc. to show our gratitude.

Who is your officiant? Are you getting married in a church? We are hiring a non-denominational officiant whom we have no previous relationship with and having a non-church ceremony. I feel that a tip in my case is completely optional and that it would be okay to not tip (we are paying for his time.) However, he's been really amazing and is really implementing our vision for our ceremony. He's been sharing resources with us and has us really excited for our ceremony and is helping a lot with keeping our stress low and is really supportive and helpful. We are so grateful to him- we're sure that the ceremony will be excellent- so we are giving him a $100 tip and inviting him to join us for dinner at the reception. You could definitely tip less- maybe $50? Or not at all if your situation is similar to ours.

The tips for the wedding reception staff is already built into our contract (18%) so we're not giving any additional tips to them. I'm talking about the 'big bosses' our wedding day co-ordinator for our venue, the maitre-d, the manager however we are giving some extra tips to the bartenders and waitstaff- $25.00 each. I think you should also tip if you have parking or coat room attendants (we do not) $1.00 per coat or $1.00 per car. (Estimate)

I would say definitely tip your DJ, at least $50. We would probably tip a lot higher than that. We are having a band and we are giving them $25 each like the bartenders and waitstaff.

I would definitely tip the driver of the horse and carriage- unless the company includes the gratutity in the charge. If not at least 15% or higher.

My only "no" is to your cake baker. We are not tipping our cake baker but giving a small tip to the worker who is delivering the cake to the venue. (Just $10.00)

Tipping should be dependant on service provided! We would not tip generously, or at all, if we were at all disappointed. The above is just my opinion and you can do what you feel is right for you.

The knot has great suggestions about tipping.

http://wedding.theknot.com/wedding-planning/wedding-budget/articles/wedding-vendor-tipping-cheat-sheet.aspx

I was thinking about this today, because we were talking about it on another board.  I'm leaving tip envelopes at the venue for the cake and chiavari chair delivery people (the venue will give it to them for me), I'm tipping the Reverend, the band members, the DJ, the hair/make-up people, the wait/bar staff, the photobooth vendor, and our wedding planner (who is also setting up our candy bar).  (I think that's the whole list).

I would also say if someone wants to tip the photographer, why not wait til the pictures come back? That way you see the finished product & can determine what to tip from there.
