I'm pretty much destined to be stressed out the month of my wedding

FI works for the government and idk if anyone else has heard but they're going through yet even more budget problems and they pushed back the deadline for this certain budget to 6 months... which is 3 weeks before our wedding. If both parties are deadlocked and can't come to an agreement there will be automatic layoffs. Not furloughs, layoffs. Like there is a chance he will lose his job 3 weeks before our wedding, right when thousands of dollars are due. It makes me so sick to think about. I hate this f*cking government and how men living rich off their asses get to decide the fate of my hard working FI and put him out of a job that he earned a masters degree for. They don't give a sh*t about us. Neither party does. At the end of the day they get their huge paychecks and their families are provided for so who cares if thousands of government employees are laid off and their homes are foreclosed on. I don't even know who to vote for this election because both candidates are horrible but it's pretty much who will f*ck us less? Ugh sorry for the long rant about things out of my control but I'm just scared to death for our kids future if it's already this bad now...

Ally- I hear ya. I too work for the Government and every year lately it's been this giant ball of stress when it gets to that time of year, worrying if they'll meet the deadline or push it back or furlough people, etc etc. Your FI must work in a different agency though because the most we've heard here is possible furloughs, not lay-offs. Keep your head up. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys that everything works out ok!

Thank you!! I know theres a lot of people affected by this issue. The thing is these budget cuts are technically for the department of defense but he's tied into that and instead of cutting certain people like air traffic controllers or something they'll move the cuts over to his department and figure since his project won't be finished til 2025 they have time to hire everyone back in a few years if they save the money now. It's all very frustrating. He knows all the technical terms and all that and all I know is he may lose his job after we just bought a house and right before our wedding.

The government is famous for waiting til the last minute and providing a temporary solution that just delays the problem a few more months so that's our only hope right now is they just keep doing that.
