When to start ordering everything?

I already got the venue, caterer, pastor, photographer reserved, bought my dress and ordered my shoes, the BM dresses are picked out just need to order them- have the shoes already. Got the guest list done and got an over all idea of how i want everything to look...  I also got the invites picked out( I just got to order them) and a few other things already picked out...

I know i'm way ahead of everything right now consdiering the wedding isn't untill september of next year, but when should i start ordering everything? I don't want to stress and have everything ordered last minute and panic about it not coming in or not being what i thought it was, etc..

  • I would hold off on ordering the invites until 4-6 months before the wedding.  This way, if something changes (such as your wedding date), it is still workable.  TK has a great timeline checklist for you as a guide.

If there is something you see on sale (such as decorations) that you really like, I think it would be OK to order them now.  Since you have alot of time before your wedding, scour thrift stores or check on Craigslist for gently-used wedding decor items that you may be looking for.

    Happy Planning!

  • I wouldn't start ordering anything else until at least January/February of next year.  Your vision could change.  What happens if there is a fire/flood/other catastrophe at the venue and your location changes?    You are way ahead of the game. Spend the next 6-8 months gathering ideas and pricing things.

I agree with PP about buying something if you happen to come across it on sale/clearance, but otherwise, hold off until early next year.
  • When I was at your point in the planning, I just scoured the blogs and researched vendors like crazy for ideas. I made the mistake of picking up some decor at about a year out, but I got an amazing deal on something that was even better afterwards. Thankfully, they were flea market finds (we're doing vintage), so I was only out my time and about $20 for the stuff I decided not to use.

A lot changed for my vision over the course of the year leading up to our wedding, so as I said before, research, research, research to find things that strike your fancy and are within your budget/doable at this point. Once you get closer to the date, things will fall into place for what ideas you use vs. what ideas you don't.

You are way ahead of schedule =) For now I would hold off on the invites and ordering Bridesmaid dresses, just scout for vendors. 2 months ago, I was planning my wedding where we were intending on having 60 people at the most, then we were thinking we had to cancel it (but luckly things have worked out for us financially) & now we are up to 120. Things have changed so much for the dynamic of our wedding.

I would suggest looking into the DJ, caterers and photographers, some photographers do book up very early (the one i booked is pretty much all booked up for 2013 as is because she only takes a limited number of clients.)

[QUOTE]You already ordered dresses?  What if someone gains weight or gets pregnant? I think you'll be okay, but I wouldn't do anymore for right now.

<div>I think she meant that she ordered her dress, and the bridesmaids dresses were just picked out. That's what I got from it, anyway.</div><div>
</div><div>OP, I'd hold off a little on ordering things. You have a long time to think about things. I'm sure I'll change my mind a thousand times before I get even close to the time I need to order things. I wouldn't want you to buy things and then change your mind, and be stuck with them. </div><div>But a PP had a good point, if you see something on sale that you like, might as well go for it. You never know if it'll be on sale again.</div>
