I've been in contact with a friend of mine who has agreed to do my hair for the wedding. She's a professional hair stylist and I know she'll do a great job. Well she lives in RI and we are getting married in ME (she's invited to the wedding) and she was going to bring a few girls from the salon she works at to do the BMs hair and also do everyone's make-up.
She told me the other day that she's having a hard time getting people to commit to come to ME, which I completely understand, but now I'm freaking out about finding someone else.
My Mom and FMIL are having another woman, from a local salon, come and do their hair and I called the salon to see if they had another person who could come to do hair too, and maybe 2 ppl to do make-up...well the girl I need to talk to is on vacation until the end of the month.
Should I contact a different local salon to see if they have people available? or just wait until the end of the month when I hear back from the other woman?
As of now, my hair, and my two MOHs will be done by my hairstylist friend. My Mom & FMIL's hair will be done by a local salon person, so that leaves 3 BMs who need their hair done. Then 8 of us that need make-up....I don't know how I feel about waiting another 3 weeks to hear back....but I don't want to ask people at another (possibly rival) salon to send people to do hair/make-up because I'm worried about offending the woman at the local hair salon who has already committed to doing Mom & FMIL's hair.
Any thoughts?

I would probably call around and start getting price quotes and stuff like. You never know, you may like another salon better than the one your mom is using. Don't worry about rivals. . they're a business and should be professional if they want your business.
You'll probably be fine to wait, but I personally would feel more comfortable calling around and just seeing who is offering what (etc).

Do your BMs already have a hairstylist in the region? It isn't obligated that everyone get their hair and makeup done at the same place.
I would call different places to see if they have someone available. No need to worry about rivalry. If one salon has 5 people to do, that's a lot. You might end up getting backed up in your schedule. I'd strongly suggest splitting the group.

The only thing you need to worry about is being comfortable and confident that they'll do a great job. Check their pricing, their work and see if you can shadow them for a little while. It would be even better if they would be willing to do your hair and makeup at a discounted rate but shadowing would work too. That way you'll be able to personally see the work they do, what kind of attitude they have, how they present themselves and so on. I mean, who really wants a raggity, rude stylist who's practically pulling your hair out? Or a makeup artist who looks like he/she belongs in the circus and does makeup that way too? If you happen to have "rival" salons doing work for your wedding then so what?

Have you tried finding a stylist who lives in ME, instead of getting one to travel there? If you're going to the Portland area, it's only a couple hours or so from Boston, so you could conceivably go up there for a day and meet with a few people.
