name change

I'm getting married in May but not going on my honeymoon until the end of June. It won't be enough time to switch my passport, but I wanted to switch my name before I go on the honeymoon. Any thoughts on this?

Book your honeymoon travel arrangements with your maiden name so it matches your passport.  Otherwise you'll have problems at the airport.  You can change update your passport when you return.
  • Ditto PP. changing your name prior to the HM could mess things up very badly since your passport will still be in your maiden name. Use your maiden name on all documents--airfare, hotel reservations, etc. If you really want to use your new married name on your HM, use it for things like making dinner reservations or if someone at the hotel asks how to address you, give your married name, etc.

  • I actually changed my SS card and DL before my honeymoon.  My passport still has my maiden name. Just make sure your plane ticket matches the passport. I called the TSA to make sure this was ok before I did it and they told me it's fairly common. Just bring a copy of your ML with you just in case.

  • you can technically change your name on your drivers license, social securty card etc.. before the HM but why bother? just do ti all when you return.

you will NOT be able to book your HM in your married name and travel with your maiden name passport and since you may or may not need to bring your license (rental car or proof of ID to use credit cards elsewehre) or credit cards it makes sense to just do it all after the HM.

you'll know you're married. no one else will care if your maiden name is on your passport.

  • I would say wait. You could change everything else but your passport but what would happen if your passport went missing or got stolen or something. Then all of your identification has a different name on it and it would just cause more confusion and grief then you need.
